I've driven both M6 and M7 on Corvette and I much like an M6 power delivery better than M7. In M6, each gear seem to be a bit taller and hits the sweet spot on the RPM.

Completely agree with this one.. 6 is perfect... if you are talking about occasionally wanting higher MPG... switch to higher gears faster and then stay there... Dont expect the Camaro V8 to give you a civic type mileage.. its not built for that..

I'm curious how bad it gets when you add long tube headers. I was definitely planning on doing this to my 2016 camaro when I get it. I have hp tuners so I guess I could disable afm if it was that bad

just really bizarre they disabled AFM on the M6

Interesting..did not know this. Thanks. When I lived in flat flroda, I would often lock into 6th and get 30+ MPG.

WRONG..... Love my 7 speed in my C7 Corvette and so do all C7 owners I have discussed this with. Geared perfect and love traveling the interstate at 75MPH at only 1450 rpm getting 32 MPG. Driving around town perfect too. If I want to just "grandpa" it around town my rpm is always 1200 to 1400 rpm shifting into3 rd at 20mph, 4th at 30 mph, 5th at 40 mph, 6th at 50mph and 7th at 60 mph. Perfect match gearing for the low end torque of the 455 horsepower engine. Will pull strong at 1200 rpm in any gear. When I want to let it rip or just take a more sporty afternoon drive, just pick a lower gear and let the rpm rise. Will be getting a new Camaro next spring and only thing I don't like so far about it is the lack of a 7th speed and the heavier weight of the car compared to the C7 Corvette and compared to all the muscle cars I grew up with in the late 60's.

So it looks as if the 6 speed, under the same rating system as my 2001 would be rated at +2 for highway and city, so 18 and 27 mpg, which would be very close to my LS1's ratings. That could help me make the decision to pull the trigger.

The C7 never had an M6, so if you are comparing the C6 to C7 you are talking about two different engines, transmissions and gear ratios. Hard to compare exactly...but I agree, 6 gears is the perfect amount.

Just as we have now ^ seen a defense of the M7 in the C7 there are a number of posts on the Corvette Forum deriding the M7. The derision seems to be based on the gearing, which we see from the above is also defended.

In the end, as currently designed, the M7 does not fit the Camaro.

lol...ok?

You admit to owning a C7 and getting 32mpg......

I guess if you want to drive the car like a grandpa then the 7 speed is the perfect tranny then. lol

More gears in the automatics is the way to go. Manuals I'd say are good at 6. The extra gear is nice for mpg ratings as you said but that's about it.

I've been a passanger in a 8sp auto Z06/07 and Chevy did an outstanding job with that tranny. I'd almost get that verses the 7spd manual if I was lucky enough to order one. I don't think you can out shift the new 8spd auto in the Z06/07 cars. IMHO

I don't think 7 gears would feel quite as powerful anyway

Just bring back the 4+3 transmission from the c4. Only shift 4 times yet get 7speeds. Win-win...

WRONG... M6 in C6 Corvette and M7 in C7 Corvette have the exact ratios from 1st to 6th gear. 2.66 first, 1.78 second, 1.30 third, 1.0 fourth, .74 fifth, .50 sixth. You will notice no difference in driving the two since there is absolutely no difference. Only advantage to 7th gear is gas mileage on interstate which I like on 8 to 10 hour driving days on the interstate which the .42 ratio provides. The Camaro uses lower gear ratios because of the heavier car but again, if it had 7th gear, I am sure the first six would be identical to 6 speed since they have done that in the vette. But it won't fit so it is a mute point anyway. The high performance Corvette's use gearing similar to the Camaro and have a 2.97 first, 2.07 second, 1.43 third, 1.0 fourth, .71 fifth, .57 sixth and .48 7th.

Well, I should have looked it up before I posted it had an additional underdrive. Three overdrive gears should help FE, too bad the TR6070 won't fit.
