I am 72 and love my 17SS coupe. It provides my "therapy" when I drive it. I have owned Road Runners, Super Bees, a 69 GTO and a 69, 72, 12 and 15 Camaro. 69 SS Chevelle and a 72,92,06 and 13 Vettes. Love them all!

I grew up loving Vintage American cars. I wasn't old enuff to drive when the cars were coming off the line but I was old enuff to be gawking at anything from a 57 Ford TBird to 69 Chevelle and everything in between from the backseat. Getting a hold of a HotRod magazine in elementary school was like gold. Damn the math problem on the blackboard.

I'm 69, and remember the musclecars of the 60's. I had an W31 Olds Cutlass back in the day, and worked for GM for 33 years.
But the "golden age" for performance cars is now! |

Just turned 60 and love my 2017 2SS convertible. I also have a blue 1978 Firebird Formula that I bought new that year and recently finished restoring. Not driving it as much with the new one in the garage though ...

61 here. First "real" car: a 1974 Camaro Z28 4-speed with 3,000 miles bought when I was 19. The one with the stripes you could see from an airplane. Same color as the attached picture, but with a white interior. The first of my three Z28s. Next was a 1980 and then a 1984, both white with blue interiors and both ordered new. The 1984 had the L69 H.O. engine option - 190 horsepower!
Around 1990 a co-worker said his Ford Capri 5.0 could take my Z28. I didn't believe it until we met up on the highway one time, and sure enough, he pulled away easily. I never liked Fords, but that impressed me, and I ended up selling my Camaro to buy a 1987 Mustang GT (pictured). I liked the engine for sure, but also the ergonomics - it was a comfortable daily driver. Bought two more Mustang GTs after that, a 1995, and then ordered a new 2005. The '05 was easily the best car I ever owned to that time. All manuals, btw. In 2015 at almost 60 years old, I thought I was due for a change after a lifetime of Mustangs and Camaros, so I ordered a new BMW M235i and sold the Mustang. Great car, the quality is second to none as far as cars I've owned. All kinds of technology, plus Michelin Pilot Super Sports, adaptable suspension, M brakes, and plenty of power in a small car. But after 2 years of BMW ownership including a couple HPDE track days, I want to go back! I was real close to ordering a 2017 SS 1LE this June, but backed out at the last minute, deciding to wait for the 2SS 1LE when I heard the announcement. I've gotten used to the creature comforts of the BMW, parking sensors, navigation, quality interior, and the like. I'm at the point now where performance is still the primary factor, but comfort is a close second. This much is true - you never really outgrow Camaros and Mustangs.

http://www.nastyz28.com/camaro/camaro74.html At the time I was 19 and not really a gearhead, so all I knew was that it had cool stripes, a V8, a 4-speed, and posi. A lot of my friends were jealous, believe me.

As some have already said, the real golden age of muscle cars is right now. This point is hard for younger drivers to fully appreciate, but not for those of us who've been around the block a few times. In 1972 my 7th grade science teacher stated the Earth would run out of oil in the 80's. A few years later, the glory days seemed to be nailed in the coffin. Most 1975 Corvettes had engines that made only 165 hp. As a song from back then said, "These are the good old days".
