3.91 gear swap on my L99

I am wanting to do 1LE gear swap to my L99 but I am concerned about my warranty. Will doing the gear swap void my warranty? Do I need to have my dealership do the install?

So if I got another shop to do my gear swap then my car is still under warranty? What do I do if the dealer ship tried to void it for some reason?

The ECM (engine computer) needs to be reprogrammed to get your speedometer to read the correct MPH with the gear swap. Any reprogramming that is done outside of a GM dealer can and will put your warranty at risk. In the event of a major powertrain component failure, the dealer is required to send in a snapshot of the ECM calibration, and if it isn't a GM calibration, they will deny the claim and void your powertrain warranty. No exceptions.

Ok so if I did the gear swap at another shop but did the speedo recalibration at the dealer then it is still under warranty, got it.

What if I reprogrammed it myself with my own programmer and if for some reason there is power train failure I returned it to the stock tune. Would they be able to tell or void?

All calibrations are tracked, even outside of the ECM itself. There is no way to hide the action, so don't even consider it.

The L99 needs to be calibrated. The LS3 does not.

Your warranty will not be voided if you buy the GM gears.. You can't buy another brand like richmond or yukon... It has to be GM.... and yes GM make the 3.91.. Not the 3.73 though...

GM was coming out with tunes for folks doing a 3.91 gear swap, one tune for L99 and one for LS3. You'd need to find a dealer who installs gears. Most likely the dealer will be pricier.

True install time is 4 hours give or take. My 3.91s only took one attempt to set up and are totally quiet.

WRONG. LS3 needs calibration since your speedo is off. If gears are not put in by a GM dealer drivetrain warranty is also voided.

Ok so I am getting two different stories:

1. The dealership has to install the gears for me to be covered under warranty
2. The dealership does not have to install gears for me to be under warranty

Not to be rude to anyone, but can someone with actual knowledge on this subject give me a straight answer on this. Because I am planning on doing this mod in the next week and I don't want to speed the extra money if I do not need to.

Thanks
