Letting a performance shop use my car to make a cold air intake

Im not going to name the brand but i found out a pretty big brand is down the the street from me. My question is after they use my car for the mock up, and then tune it for there cold air intake they are going to return it to stock. Will there be a way for gm to notice down the line that my car has ever been tuned? Im gonna keep the cold air intake and install it at a later date down the line.

The are also going to mock a oil separator up.

Yes. There's a write counter on the PCM from my understanding. They will see the PCM has been modified and your service record will indicate there's been no changes.

SuperSound is correct. You will have allowed them to void your powertrain warranty. Not worth it unless you were already planning to have your car recalibrated. And in that case, you might as well leave it.

My recommendation? Not worth it unless you were going down that road anyway.

Are you sure they will be adding a tune? Sounds unlikely for just a cold air intake...Most just swap out with the stock and no tune is needed.

They need your car to adjust their design so it doesn't throw a code with the stock tune...and they will make before and after dyno pulls to show a hp improvement...

I would be concerned more with how hard they plan on revving it prior to being broken in...

If they told you they will be messing with the actual tune, I'd have second thoughts about letting them have it...

Agreed!

If they are "tuning" the intake shape, radii, attachment scheme, then that's a different matter.

If they touch any control module on the car and re calibrate......don't do it.

I wouldn't do it for less than $2000 and a free CAI and tune.

First of all is a reputable shop? I'd worry less about the warranty as long as they don't change the tune. Also, do you know your dealer and their service department and if so you can probably not worry about the warranty unless you have a engine failure and generally a CAI is not going to cause any issues. I had warranty work done on my supercharged g8gt at my local dealership and didn't have an issue, I also had purchased probably 30 vehicles from them and they knew I didn't abuse the car and it was nothing related to the supercharger. GM is also selling their own CAI which will probably similar to the one they are building for you. You probably won't need a tune, I've done a bunch of different CAI's for my G8, my truck, the LSX wagon I built, my corvettes and most needed no additional tuning. As one member said before the computer can make adjustments for the additional air the Maf will encounter as it passes thur the intake tube. Obviously its up to you, I'll add one to my 16 as I did my 15. Just have fun and enjoy your ride. You may have a hard ass dealer that hates HYPO cars or you may have a dealer that loves them, remember they get paid for your warranty work. BY no means am I telling you what to do, I think you should get a CIA for free if they are making money off your car. Just be careful and make sure they do it right.

The place his car is at is a very reputable shop. They haven't given an update other than the intake is already out of the 3D printer yet. Did they update you yet Bybcous?
