convertible owners.. how do you combat the sun?

owned the car for 2 weeks now, the wife has yet to ride in it, so I took friday off from work, and after dropping our daughter off at school we took a cruise up the coast..

Pacific Coast Highway from Huntington Beach Ca to Malibu with a little freeway tossed in.

98 degrees in Socal and I got roasted, my pasty white face and neck is now lobster red, plus the addition of raccoon stripes from the sun glasses.

Today I bought myself this:

not sure if it will help, but worth a shot

This should be moved over to the "vert" section, but yeah, I did the same thing one beautiful sunny day. Hurt to comb my hair, ha.

That is a great road to run the Camaro.

And yes, sunblock does help !

I had a convertible Beetle as a fun car about five years ago. I have never been much of a hat wearer until I had that thing.

A hat is a must in a convertible. And sunscreen your forearms/hands/knees if you are wearing a short sleeve shirt and/or shorts.

Keep the hat and SPF in your ride, always.

I also kept a windbreaker in the back for cold weather, put the heat on high, and drove with the top down about 10 months of the the year in Atlanta.

Put a "survival kit" in your glove box;

1. Neutrogena Wet Skin SPF 85 Spray - apply 30 min earlier (won't leave white residue all over your interior)
2. Hats
3. Scarf for the wife
4. sunglasses

Traded for a camaro with a roof after 3 months. I do miss the convertible though but I never could stand the top down when it was hot and sunny.

In my mustang I just pulled out the sunvisor and sat under the shade it made. In my Camaro I wear sunblock

I never put the top down when it's 90+ It's just too damn hot. Has to be cooler during the day or at cooler parts of the day during those scorching hot summer days. In the summer here in LI NY, mainly July and August- too hot and humid. But at dusk and after the sun goes down... awesome! And yes definitely need protection from the sun even on cooler days.

That's why I bought the coupe. If I wanted all that fresh air and sunshine I'd have gotten a Harley. Ball cap with the flap on back and lots of sunscreen though, to answer the question.

I ride with the top down in the mornings or in the evenings. I just got back from a morning cruise. It's 75 degrees and breezy this morning.

You need to get one of these hats so the don't take off in the wind.
