I bought a 70 LS6 Chevelle, with 30k miles on it and not a scratch on it for $1800.00 in 1974. Through the 70's and even part of the 80's, I owned a long list of Z-28, SS Camaro's, Big Block SS Chevelle's, etc, that due to first the Arab embargo on oil and later as those "older" Muscle cars sort of fell out of style with the general public, I paid stupid cheap prices for all of them. If I had left them all in the garage and waited a few decades, I would have made a fortune on them for sure. But...I can't put a value on how much fun I had owning and driving them. Today at 67 years of age, it doesn't matter as I won't live long enough to truly find out what happens on these cars so while I won't use the ZL1 as a daily (although I certainly could and did with my 2015 2 SS) and it will never see rain, I sure am not going to pass up enjoying it while I can. YMMV but we never know what tomorrow may bring and I like to live with the philosophy of, plan for tomorrow, but live for today. Having a (fill in the blank here) years old Camaro with 1000 miles on it or whatever and having to visit it in my garage while in a wheelchair isn't my idea of living.

If they have the v8 and a manual they will be the most wanted 30-40 years from now.

10 speeds will come second

1le packages will be special as well as the zl1

I wish...Back then you actually had to take a picture and then have the film developed. I was 18 years old and didn't bother or care about pictures. I owned the car a comparatively short period of time, something else caught my eye and it was gone. 60's and 70's Muscle cars were everywhere and I had no idea of what I really had with any of them.

I'm not THAT young. But I am old enough I have had to say that to my kids.

I'm not sure, reality will probably be more like Demolition Man(a sentence that has never been formed before) as far as cars go.

That 442 scene is probably spot on. Besides the fact it worked.

The sad thing is that even the cars I did take pictures of, most of those have been lost to time. I still have pictures of the 68 RS/SS 396 Camaro I sold when I moved to Arizona 10 years ago but those were done in the "digital age" so they may be around forever.

I was just thumbing through a copy of Hemmings Motor News from October 1980 I came across some time back in a pile of old magazines I have and there are things like, "69 SS Camaro Convertible, $2500.00" "67 Chevelle 325hp 396, $2500.00" ""72 Monte Carlo 402 TH400, bucket seats with console, loaded with factory options, excellent condition, 38k miles, $2700.00" etc, etc. Somewhere in there (I can't find it right now) is an Orange 69 Z-28, 40k miles for 2k. And at that time, I was thinking that man, Some of these cars are starting to get expensive. The 70's were a glorious time to be young and have enough money to spend on cars, I just didn't appreciate it properly at the time.

So maybe our cars will be valuable collectors items one day, but I don't have 40 years to find out.

Isn't it always like that though, we experience something great and then years later it hits us how absolutely amazing it was and if only we had known, we would've appreciated it even more...

Don't say you don't have 40 years, living for 90+ years isn't hafl as rare as it used to be, even 100+ years is no longer unthinkable.

When I was barely double digits my dad took me to see his uncle, who was showing off his latest restoration. I believe it was a 396 El Camino or something, but he said "oh, this is nothing, wait until you see what I found in Texas. I have to go pick it up but I'm waiting until I get this out of the garage.

I couldn't wait to see it. Never did. In fact, just a month later he died and I don't what happened to that Yenko Nova. Yup, he had found a Yenko Nova somewhere in Texas.

Actually you are right, I may well see 90+, maybe even with a little luck, 100 if family and personal history is any indicator. I feel like I did at 40, am completely healthy and certainly look and act far younger than my "advanced years". My love of all things fast certainly hasn't diminished any and last spring, I had my motorcycle up to a tick or two over 150 on a closed and private road in Mexico.

BUT...the calendar does not lie and if anything, hitting my 60's made me realize that the clock is running and I no longer say things like "I want to do that in the next 10 years". I do it today as you just never know what tomorrow may bring.

Great to hear about your health, and family history is definitely indicative of good genetic makeup. As an example, my wife's grandma lived to 97 and she was lucid all the way to the end, with zero mental acuity issues, I was able to discuss literally everything in the world with her, technology, politics, economy, you name it. Interestingly, she was also a working gal who had an extremely hard life (thanks to world wars, some deranged commies and the economy they ruined), I still wonder if that was part of what put the steely resolve in her. Even we have it almost too easy today compared to her generation.

I understand the thrill with bikes, it's just not for me personally, I had a few mishaps back in my youth and now I'm a chicken, plus it has become much more dangerous because of all the inattentive, texting or simply untrained drivers on the road.

Enjoying and appreciating the day is an art I still have to master myself, thanks for the encouragement. Our clocks seem to be running ever faster, don't they, so (to awkwardly steer back to topic) I don't really worry about how much my Camaro will fetch in 25 years from now. Even if by some miracle it becomes super desirable despite being heavily modded, I'm not sure I'll still have things to do with the money, so I'll just keep her in good shape and maybe give it to my daughter or my son if she or he wants it.

True but in terms of holding the most value, no.

Collectors wont want a V6 looking Camaro.

With out a doubt the SS will be more valuable in the long run. As stated above the more options added the more value the Camaro will hold along with rare colors and options for the model year.

Yep. V6s just don't hold their value at all across the board. I see 5th gen V6s for $5Kish on facebook marketplace all the time, SS' are still $10K+
