Lol... I learned from my brother about 2 times. Just the basic like start and stop. Then a year later, bought a manual camaro and for its first drive, took it down the 405 from the valley to Long Beach during rush hour. Learned more on that one drive than I did with my brother... I don't recommend this method though... I had cold sweat running down my back the whole way.

The d-bag method that my uncle told me was that he learned to stick shift by going to dealers and telling them that his parents are planning on buying him a car and he wants to buy manual but doesn't know how to drive it. The dealer trying to sell the car would offer to teach. He learned how to drive stick on new cars lol. Not sure if I would recommend this one either though...

There is a member here that jumped into his '10 SS after never driving a stick. It's best to learn under pressure...... Or a rental car.

Agreed learn under pressure on your own, I did it. The dealer flew me out to San Antonio then I had to drive back to tulsa! About 600 miles! No manual car experience, they just told me the basics and I was off! Hit to traffic jams each about 25 minutes in length, but I learned so much faster. Trust me if your male it's just wired into our brains somehow, and is alot easier than can be made out to be.

It's not really that hard. Best to start off on a beater car - at least to get the basics. Each car is different, but once you understand how to smoothly release the clutch, the rest is a piece of cake. Then you can refine your technique on your own car. Rental car would be the best way to go - but I don't think there are too many manual rental cars out there.

Stop-n-go traffic is the best place to learn. It also builds up the muscles in your left leg.The clutch in my Camaro is pretty stiff compared to some of the other cars out there.

When it came time to learn to drive stick I could not find a rental company that offered manual transmission cars and didn't have any family members or friends with manual transmission cars.

I ended up finding a driving school in Los Angeles that teachs stick shift. So I did their course and was pretty happy with the lesson

i agree pressure is the best way. we had a meet about a year ago.... i own a automatic camaro but they were letting people drive their supercharged LS3 camaro.... my buddy taught me the basics in a matter of 3 mins before i jumped in and with everyone watching i did fine. i will have a manual on my camaro when i upgrade.

I learned to drive stick at the age of 12 in an orchard driving a 1981 VW Rabbit pickup.

I've never owned a stick prior to my SS and only drove one a few times back in college. Just drove it home on the backroads. Took about an hour to get the hang of it. Just go to an empty parking lot and get used to finding the release point on the clutch. One you find that its pretty simple. Also, be really smooth when easing off the clutch or it will be really jumpy. Have fun!
