So if I understand correctly about the SS..

Hey guys 1 final question before im ready to order . The SS... it needs a higher octane so i have to go with the more expensive gas? The 87 octane or the 93? It would say in the owners manual I know but I wanted to know so im prepared.. Is the SS really worth it or should I just go with the 2LT? Also what kind of oil...?

Thanks alot guys

in the owners manual it says 87 is OK, but it will run better on 91 or 93. it also says do not put anything below 87 in the tank or it will hurt your engine. I put 93 in mine.

I use 92 OCT. I also get 27.5 at 70 mph cruse control on.

It gets better mileage and runs smoother with 91+. I have ran both. It's worth the coin.
We don't have 93 here (altitude) so I can only get 90/91.
If you run the lower octane, the higher octane won't matter unless you reset the fuel map with a fuse pull. Simple to do, and it works.

Quick question....is the engine "tuned" from GM to get the most performance on 91?

I know 93 is better...but if 91 is all you have are you getting the full potential of the engine?

I did some research after hearing about the 93 octane being the best. If you are at or close to sea level, 93 is supposed to be equivalent to 91 at higher elevations. I am at 6400 ft, so less dense air with lower octane has the same effect. I just put in the highest octane available and smash the right pedal.

SS is absolutely worth it. I know I'd be kicking myself if I got he LT (no offense LT drivers). The power is what sold me. Have you test-driven either yet?

Well,.... Considering the price of a SS, paying 3 or 4 extra dollars at the pump to get premium is well worth it to me. If you have your heart set on getting an SS then dont worry about the few extra dollars it will cost to get premium gas. Something else you will lean first hand when you get your new Camaro, is that the #1 question you will be asked by others who see your Camaro will be: Does that have the V-8 in it?

If the price of gas is what will decide if you buy an SS than you might not want an SS. The SS/RS is top dog of the camaro. Its tuned for 91 octane and up but will do much better with a real dyno tune which will void your warranty and net you a good 27mpg highway. I suggest you drive a SS with all bells and whistles, rims, and brembo brakes and decide if you want it all...

Like others have said you will need to use premium fuel and synthetic oil(8 quarts). However, I would be putting synthetic in a V6 also. The SS is worth every penny.

I think your biggest decision will be what transmission to get. Put A LOT of thought into this. Read the threads. There are a lot of complaints about the A6 AFM and some people complain about having to install the skip shift elim in the M6.
