The A8 Shudder back with a Vengeance!

So after the dealer swapped out the TC under warranty about a year ago, for the dreaded shudder, the transmission was fine for about 5k miles. Within the last week, it seemed to reemerge ever so slightly. Figured it was the hard run-flats or uneven pavement. No such luck. After a few days, it became more prominent and now I even feel it slipping. Going to the dealer next week for the "New" fluid flush.

Question: for those of you out there that have had the latest TSB fluid flush done, did that solve the problem?

About 20,000 miles since the new fluid and flush. It's doing good still.

I've only had my car for a month noticed the shudder for the first time yesterday have an appointment for a flush and new oil next week. The car just turned 30000kms(18000miles) hope this is the fix....

I suffered the dreaded "shudder" in my Colorado. I had the flush and latest fluid "fix" about six weeks ago. So, far, so good (approximately 1,0000 miles). The dealer stated they've had good results with this latest fluid. Though he did find a piece of wood to knock on.

Were you on the previous ("triple flush") fluid and NOT the latest one (Jan 2019, part number 19417577)? If yes, you might want to ask for another new TC, thereby making sure it only ever runs with the new fluid.

I'll be a good guinea pig for the shudder thing, btw: I have a 2018 and despite not experiencing the shudder, I asked the dealership to flush each time as soon as the then-latest fluid became available, with very low mileage on the TC even for the last flush. Then I got the transmission tuned and AFM turned off soon afterwards. All this is to say is that if the shudder does ever make an appearance on my car, we'll know for sure it is unfixable.

So far so good, though, the trans is still just about perfect, crisp WOT upshifts, smooth part throttle cruise shifts up and down, no lurching, no weird gear hunting. Only issues are the slower paddle response time (compared to the A10) and the too long 4th gear, both well-known and inherent in the design. We'll see

Stupid shudder showed up in mine a little while back. I didn’t drive it much before getting it in for the new flush.

It’s been good since, so we’ll have to see what happens.

If it comes back my plan is to go in & look at new ones, at the dealership I bought it then if they come back with “Well sir, here’s what we can do for trade cause it seems to have a shudder...” I’ll say, “Well, thank you, now you can fix it under that lifetime warranty you gave me. I’ll take a Yellow ZL1 now.”

yes, new fluid fixed me up. No issues since. Now I have to take my Colorado in for the same thing.

Reading post, and about the latest TSB flush results I think naturally the answer is have the latest TSB flush done and go from there.

Did you have the new fluid flush done since the TC replacement?

I was skeptical but after almost 10K miles on the "NEW" fluid, I have no issues. I mean its still a laggy transmission compared to the ZF-8, but there is no shudder.

Yes, unfortunately, it was the old fluid. I did however stop driving the car after about 4 days of shudder so as to not destroy the TC...I hope. Thankful I have a Jeep GC Hemi [tuned] daily driver. Thank you to all who replied giving me some hope for this fix. I tuned out the AFM even before the TC swap out so I don't believe AFM is a factor in this issue.

I did tune the ECM and am very happy with it but I'm afraid to tune the trans. The service manager is a personal friend who knows my car is tuned and warned me when they did the TC swap they would need a computer flash check to authorize the repair. I did re-flash the ECM to stock but I think he got the flash from the TCM because he said it was fine.

I've had 4 different Camaros over the last 30 years... all manual transmissions including a Gen 6 which I swapped out for the A8. I can say when the A8 is working properly, as it was right after the TC swap I absolutely love the 8 speed. To me, the car has so much more personality and sure as hell feels faster.

Happy fourth of July to all!
