don't forget braking. those brakes are a cut above the ZL1 equipment.
I would love to see a ZL1 vs Z28 lap where they had the same wheel and tire package and the same brakes. that could be all 3 seconds right there.

I wonder if those Recaro seats would sit lower and allow more headroom?? If so I'd interested because I need all the room I can get to fit my helmet in there.

I would gather that as a good part of the equation. Also going to bet that the suspension is even stiffer than the ZL1. My car is pretty soft when in tour mode and only gets bouncy stiff when the Mag ride is set to PTM 4/5. As the Z28 looks to have traditional non electronic suspension my guess is it will be valved stiffer with stiffer springs too.
Add 300 Lbs less weight with stronger brakes and you have the 3 seconds around the track. If you remember the ZL1 brakes do not stop the car faster than a SS they just don't fade. I bet the Z28 brakes are stronger when hot and far more aggressive. (Can't wait to hear people complain about the carbon ceramic brakes squealing because that type of brake is known to be not be quiet.) I bet some will take the Z28 and try to make a full street car out of it. Change the tires, order with AC, add a stereo and some sound deadening. The car will lose the point of why it was made. Heck I am sure some will supercharge it.... more weight less handling. I personally am not upset that the Z28 is faster on the track. My ZL1 will rarely go to the track. The ZL1 was the perfect car for me. An amazing street car with great manners, amazing performance, and every creature comfort I could want. The Z28 is a vicious wolf ready to kill. The ZL1 is a well trained German Shepard that is loyal and friendly to all until you let it off the leash.

So you can drive into the corners harder with the ceramic and pull out of them quicker with the 3:91 gear. That and taking 300#'s of weight off and you get 3 second at Nurburg (which I can only guess is where they tested the car since that is also the ZL1 baseline track). I would actually be more interested in the time at VIR but I guess we will get that in about 9 months or so. I would think the top end on the Z/28 would be 10mph slower (not that it matters) because of the gearing and the fact that it may have the same drift tendency the SS has because of limited down force. The ZL1 hood creates up to 65 pounds of down force which is huge at 150+ speeds. I love the Recaro seats in the Z/28 but not enough to swap out the ones in my ZL1. If I tracked my car more often, I would certainly look into those. I DO really like the wheels on the Z/28 and if they are 40+ pounds lighter than the standard black rims I have (which is what I have heard) and I can get those Pirelli's mounted on it, those are definitely in my future. Overall, I love the fact Chevy is providing options to its buyers. I love my ZL1 and will only track it 3-5 times a year so I have no interest in the Z/28 but I certainly can see where the interest would be if I was an every weekend track guy. It is a good time to be a muscle car fan. Enjoy it while it lasts. |

According to those involved in the Z/28′s development, the unique suspension configuration features what’s called a dynamic suspension spool valve (DSSV) dampening system. The setup allows compression and rebound of the shocks to be adjusted without removing them from the car. For the most part, such a system has been reserved for motor sports vehicles. But considering the hard-core nature of the new Z/28, it might as well be. In fact, the 2014 Camaro Z/28 is the second-ever production car to feature such a setup. The first? The ultra-rare, ultra-exclusive, ultra-expensive Aston Martin One-77 hypercar, which carries an MSRP of $1,700,000. This aggressive suspension system apparently yields impressive results on the track. For instance, Chevrolet claims that the Z/28 is an average of three seconds faster than the more powerful, magnetic-ride-control-equipped Camaro ZL1 around GM’s Milford Road Course. |

the trannies have a differnt 5th gear .75 vs .80 and the ls7 has increased realine 7k so it would go 186 at redline in 5th. 186 is litterally as fast as I ever had my z06. so that is plenty. they said 3 seconds a lap. if that is the ring not that impressed. if that was VIR or chevy test track it is huge. I want to see milage. n/a and with a .5 6th.

Grip and brakes. I would guess the Ring would be close due to long straights with many sweeping corners. Smaller twisty courses is where the extra grip and brakes will come into play. I would bet tires alone would reduce the difference significantly.
Who cares though? |

You cant really supercharge an LS7 properly due to the head design.......calloway does on the z06 but runs very low boost .....lot of talk on here about that ages ago

Pretty sure that has more to do with static compression then the port design on the heads, as well as the Ti connecting rods that dont like detonation.

Lol there are hundreds of 750 whp z06s out there with blowers on them.. the pistons and bad intake valves are the weak link. Then after that's replaced 800 -1000 then the extremely thin cylinder walls become a big issue. .

The 2014 ZL1 will have the same ZL1 performance specs. Not sure if that was already mentioned. Only comfort upgrades and options, still 580hp.

I noticed the z-28 is to have a special two mode exhaust that is 3" diameter, compared to the 2.5" the zl1 has. Thats very interesting.
