Ground Clearance
Does anyone know the ground clearance? I'm surfin' and can't find any specs on it.
I was thinking of going to 17" rims, which means I'll lose 1.5". The factory lowered suspension is another +/- 3/4", so 2 1/4" might mean a lot of scraping in and out driveways. |

I just measured. About 4.25” from the ground to the bottom of the air deflectors, and about 6.5” to the bottom of the front lip. That’s on a 1SS with stock wheels and tires. You can always make up the difference with higher profile tires on 17” wheels...I think.

I *might* be able to get a thicker side wall (50/60), but it will allow more sidewall deflection, and therefore, affect the handling. Man, it would be nice to just be able to swap gears instead of playing this game. I'd throw a set of 4.10 or 4.56's in and be done. |

I googled "6th gen camaro ground clearance" got the answer 0.95 seconds later.
Chevy.com: Ground clearance: (in / mm): 3.5 / 90 (under car at catalytic converter) 4.3 / 110 (at front splitter) I had no idea the lowest point would be the cat, but it kind of makes sense, I guess. Hottest part of the car needs most airflow.

Why not go with 18 inch wheels like some Camaros have stock instead of 17s! That might be better to go that route.

Go the gear route, what I would do.

If I go from the 245/40/20 to a 285/40/17 I end up @ 3.98/1 ratio (w/ 3.73 gears), I'd land @ 3.83 with 18's Besides, they don't make these in an 18" GM seems to have made it so you can't, unless you have the E-Diff. Or, you buy an aftermarket 3rd member. |
