18's can fit an SS, I know this because I have 18's on mine. The offsets and such are a bit trickier than just getting rims off a different car though. The information is hard to get set answers on, because there are a ton of different opinions based on what individual goals are for wanting to go to a smaller diameter wheel. Are you wanting to make your car into more of a straight line drag car, or just a better daily driver with "touring" options in mind?

Here are a few things I remember from when I made the swap. If you want to go wider than stock, then you can run into rubbing issues up front, and parking break line touching issues in the rear. So be aware of those potential problems. Some wheels can fit, but are not an exact fit and will require a spacer of some sort to offset the offset to make them fit. You would like to avoid this if possible.

Also, the stock brake pads have those weights (roller skates as some call them) that supposedly lessen the chances of them squealing on you. 18's will not fit with these in play. You have two options, first is to cut the weights off your existing brake pads. The second option is to simply replace them with Hawks brake pads that have no weights off the rear side.

The other thing to be aware of is overall diameter (that is, wheel + tire combination) If it ends up being smaller than the overall stock diameter, you will actually be going slower than what the speedometer shows, yet putting more miles on the odometer than what you are actually traveling. The reverse is true too, larger overall diameter means you will be going faster than what the speedometer says by a bit, and more the faster you go, which is something to watch out for, but you will actually put a few miles less on the odometer than distance actually traveled. (this is important to think about like when to perform oil changes and such based on milage)

I got in contact with a guy named Tony on here (username Nine Ball, check the wheels and tire forum on here to find him) he knew all the info on our cars in regards to these aspects. You tell him what you want to do, and what size you want, and he can get some wheels custom made for you that will have the proper spacing and offset to fit your car perfectly with no spacers or clearance issues. You will have to replace the brake pads or cut off the weights regardless, so you can start planning for that ahead of time. I would recommend talking to him and getting some custom wheels made based on what you want to do. It will be worth the up front investment to have a wheel that you like the looks of and will suit the mission of what you want to accomplish rather than having to rig something to make other wheels fit.

In any event, good luck to you and your project. I hope this info at least helps you get pointed in the right direction.
