One of my biggest fears is coming true!
So my fiancée is making me sell my car to get a cheaper one so we can get a house or apartment. I just got out of the military and don't have the best paying job currently but hoping one of my applications come through. I'm holding off on selling as long as I can but if it comes down to it I'm making her promise me in writing I can get a new one when we can lol. I'm wondering now what I should do about my performance parts, should I take my headers tune and intake off to sell separate or sell with the car. I also have a stage 3 MTI race cam with supporting parts to sell as well. I'm thinking 36,000 for everything is reasonable price, the car has 13300 miles currently and is in perfect condition. Any input on this? Suggestions? Job opportunities? Lol I'm in the louisville ky area.
EDIT It's summit white in color 2012 2ss/rs Hallteck 102 mm intake Kooks 2in headers w/hf cats and full 3in exhaust. I have mufflers but there not on the car currently MTI stage 3 race cam 3 bolt cam gear and timing chain from lingenfelter Dual rate valve springs with titanium retainers Melling high volume oil pump All special tools needed to do cam install, Pushrod length checker, spring compressor, and the hose to pressurize the cylinder for removing valve springs. Front tires are stock with 7/32 tread new tires have 10/32 Rear tires are stock with 5/32 tread new tires have 10/32 Both front and rear still have plenty of life. EDIT Hurst short throw shifter w/white ball Trunnion kit from comp cams Dealer installed heritage grille Last edited by Ieatfordsforlunch; 03-27-2013 at 03:15 PM. |

You may want to rethink things if she is "making you" sell the car.

If you can not sell private i would pull the parts. You wont get anything more with them on from a dealership. That way you could sell the parts and make some cash back.

I owe 30,000 on it I paid 45,000 and put 10,000 down plus I got some discounts for military and employee discount from a friend who worked at the dealership. So I would like to walk away from it with 4 to 6 thousand after everything is sold.

For everything that has been done to that car, I'd say $36K is very reasonable. If it were me, I'd probably start a bit higher than that. Only thing is, it will take a very particular buyer. And like the post above said, if you end up trading it in to a dealer, convert back to stock and sell the mods as parts....mods won't help you at all at most dealerships.

I agree with the posters above- take off what you can and sell the parts separately. Only the right buyer will want your mods on the car, and a dealer definitely won't give the money for them. I hope everything works out for you and you come out ahead. Good luck with the sale!
Thanks for your service! |

Wedding is almost paid for, the date for that is June 22. She wants to get an apartment or a house now, we're staying with her parents at the moment till we get on our feet. I got out in feb and started working for valvoline just a few days after. The pay isn't great but it's better than nothing. I'm hoping I hear from the police department soon that will be the job to keep my car lol. Or at least is I sell and still get the job I can always get the zl1 or z28

Tell her to give you incentive to sell the car, and then take it out in trade.

Thanks for your service from one SM to another. I can't tell you what to do or what not to do because that's your business, but if I had a gf/fiancee/wife who didn't work or contribute (not saying yours doesn't) I wouldn't even allow her to choose to make me get rid of my car or not, especially since I am paying on it with my hard earned money (I have alot of military buddies who spouses who don't do anything to help out and demand they get this or that, or get rid of this or that and it pisses me off to see it). Granted marriage comes with a price (this is why I prefer not to until I am ready lol), but I am not fond of people making my decisions when they don't contribute at all. Again not saying this applies to you, just me.

Whoa!!! I just had a "flashback" to 1971 and this same situation!! Well, the car on the left went and I sure wish I had kept it somehow. Still married to the same girl, so there was a plus in there. You can always get a new one and 2016 (C6?) will be here before you know it. Good luck!!
