Bypass valve volume
Is the race bypass valve in the procharger kit obnoxiously loud?
Do any of you who have it wish you had stuck with the standard valve? Thanks for any info! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Now on the flip side. When you have those moments where you want to scare old ladies and small children. The sound of this thing coming down the road like a Jet taking off. Winding up and when you hit the boost it shuts the sound off like a switch when it slams shut. Shift to the next gear and hear it gush. There is a Race bypass valve that is enclosed which can be used to route the air through a hose which you could tuck somewhere further under the car if you wanted more stealth plus the benefits of the bigger race bypass. I actually considered replacing mine with one that I found one on Ebay. I bought it and went to mount it up. Visually it looks just about the same size as the external. It mounted to the flange just fine but was just about a half inch taller and wouldn't fit in the location my external occupies. So yeah pro's and con's.

I ran the standard valve for a year, and just recently changed it to the race valve. And yes it is loud but, I am very happy I did it. Love the race valve.

On turbo setups, it's a common practice to run the bypass valve, a closed circuit one, back into the exhaust. Just be sure to plumb it to a point well past the O2 sensors.
That's how my Audi TT is plumbed. |

We include a "muffler" in the standard kit AKA a filter.... to make the standard valve quiet.
If you want a bit more sound, removing the muffler ususally does it. |

I think I’ll start with the standard valve without the filter. If it’s not enough I’ll buy the race valve. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I think if you start with the standard valve you will need to have a different flange welded to your intercooler for the race valve

That is correct. Same thing I had to do. You can see the size difference in the picture

Does the race valve fit the Stage II intercooler without modification?

The blower runs cooler,, intercooler runs cooler, and load on engine is reduced If you want to reduce the noise you could add a second valve to reduce the volume per valve which reduces the noise. I run 2 50mm Bypass valves on my car and it is actually tolerable but I am also spinning my blower 25 psi. I may add a 3rd one to reduce the noise further. Pressure that builds and rushes past the valve is what is responsible for the noise, the higher the pressure the higher the noise. I am sure it has something to do with the Port design as well but I am no Aerodynamics expert. Ted.

No you have to have a new flange welded on. As in the picture I posted you can see how much bigger the race valve is compared to the standard. I’m also running the stg II IC. I forgot what I paid for the race valve, and I paid $100 for the new flange to be welded on. Well worth it in my opinion
