Anyone Trailering your car?

I'm interested in trailering my SS to events. Anyone here have experience trailering your Camaro?

Wondering if an 18' enclosed would work?

Anything specific to look for?

I've towed my SS with a 20' enclosed, and with my 30' custom hauler.

I think an 18' would be very tight. Take good measurements, make sure you have enough room between the front of the car and the wall of the trailer to get under there and strap it down.

Also, it's a heavy car. An enclosed trailer with 7k gross (dual 3500 lbs axles) would be borderline, unless the trailer is aluminum.

I have been hauling mine on an 18ft. open trailer. Based on that, personally, I would not go with anything less than a 20 ft. X 8 ft. wide enclosed. If you want to haul an extra set of wheels and tires, 24 ft would be best.

I'm a bit torn, as I found a great trailer, but it is an 18'.

Pros:
- all aluminum
- Clamshell design - both ends open
- Big side door for easy access of driver's door

Cons:
- 18' as mention 20+ would be ideal
- not sure it will balance well with such a tight fit

I think is IDEAL for a Porsche.

I have a Chevy Express 2500 van that I built out when I was into bikes.
I figure I can keep the extras in there.

Well, having see the trailer, not at all what I was expecting, I think you will be fine. I'll find some pics of mine on the open 18. Since it opens both ends, you should have no problems.

As you can see, I back the car on the trailer. It keeps the weight over the axles. Because of the rear stop rail at the front, it is difficult to under the back of the car and get it strapped down. The very back edge is directly over the rail. The front edge of the front bumper is right at the beginning of the dovetail (16 ft). I have no issue at the front because nothing is in the way. The drivers door opens just enough over the top of the fender for me to get out.

I was imagining a standard enclosed with roughly 1 ft to spare in the front and 1 ft in the rear. I could not imagine you being able to tie it down. With both ends open with the clamshell, you should not have a problem.

Thanks.

Yes, the tightness on the 18' keeps me on the fence with this purchase... and I need to do it or walk away.

That was my concern about weight distribution, and your backing it on seems to be the best solution for this tight space.

I've been thinking about getting a larger enclosed trailer, My friend just bought an all aluminum 20 footer which is pretty nice from Big tex in Beumont. They start around 10k for light weight aluminum ones.

Both of these dealers are in So Cal. In the middle of nowhere but worth the drive. I have a look trailer for our motorcycles and its been trouble free for 3 years. Good trailer for the money, my friend uses one for his spec miata.

Yucaipa trailers has pretty good deals on Look trailers. Not all aluminum they're heavier but are lower price.
