I was thinking about trading in my 2012 SS for a Gen 6, but after sitting in one at a car show I am now looking for a Gen 5 ZL1. My car has to be a daily driver that sees the drag strip, auto cross and track day. But I also enjoy 2-4 day road trips requiring luggage etc.,, I don't think the cramped interior and much smaller trunk size of the Gen6 will be enough. The ZL1 is a great grand touring car at an affordable price.

I had a chance to see the 6th gen at the Find New Roads local stop and while I'm luke warm on the exterior, I really like the interior and chassis engineering on the car. I know the next Z car will be great, but I'm really curious to see the msrp considering how they priced the C7 ZO6 and CTS-V. I'm guessing $62-$64K, but time will tell.

I think it's still plenty robust.
I thought I just read a review that said it was less than 200lbs lighter? Either way, lighter is better. Seems impressive with a 3.9-4.0 0-60. I like the looks. It's a nice subtle change that is still recognizable as a Camaro.

The seats were some the most comfortable seats I sat in at the show. They were snug but comfortable for my 6'-2" 210 lb frame. The driver and passenger are 2-3" closer together leaving you fighting for elbow space on the center console. Rear seat appears to have about 2" less leg room making what was a barely usable rear seat is now not usable for passengers. Visibility is similar to the gen5. Fit and finish better. In the trunk, imagine the area around the front and back of the wheel we'll is walled off on you gen5, you loose roughly 10- 15% of cargo space, that's the gen6. I think a corvette might accommodate my wife and I better since our kids are all out of the house. My wife flat out said she didn't like it and suggested I find something else. I spoke to a few other gen5 owners that were equally disappointed. But it may be a matter of if you drive it, you will buy it. The Mustang GT 350 definitely impressed me more than any other car at the show and I am a bit of the GM loyalist having raced GM cars for decades.

I doubt if the 6th gen is a step backward. But I reserve judgment of a comparison to say better/worse until I actually drive one and see for myself. I'm sure there will be aspects of improvement and some aspects of things where the 5th gen was better suited to my tastes.
It's a Camaro with power options up to an excess of 400 HP. Regardless of Generation, what's not to like?

From a performance standpoint it will be "better" as long as they don't sacrifice quality. Lower weight and more power is a no brainer. And while I'll take any extra performance I can get, I also love the 1st gen inspired looks of gen 5 enough to pass on the gen 6 improvements. Hats off to those behind the generation 5 Camaro! I hope 6 proves to be a worthy successor.

My whole point is that when looking at the next Gen, there is a lot to consider . Before it is really better. To me it is value . What are you getting for the money . If the new ZL1 /Z28 was more HP better handling and a lighter / stronger car for 55000 to 65000
Then good it is better but if the new car cost 85000.00 for 640 HP and is harder to mod forget it . |

The platform is a better start, so I disagree with this prediction. I think it will exceed overall.
For me the smaller back seat is an issue since I have kids age 10-12 that occupy that space regularly.

Comparing the current SS to the gen 6 SS, so far it looks superior by far. |

What I have been thinking about is whether it is worth it to trade my ZL1 for the gen6 SS. What do you guys think?

I love the new car, but not enough to trade my ZL1 to go back to an SS. Ill have to wait to see how they are performing in the real world. I got burnt with problems buying the first of the Fifth gen. I don't want a repeat of that. I'll wait to see what the next top dog is or a least or so for the bugs to get worked out.
