Hitting a deer is no fun have taken several into the grille. I don't think that's enough damage to total the car. fenders, hood, bumper and pieces, raid support, condensors, headlights, and some other pieces. I doubt it has frame damage but even the that can be fixed. Glad you're ok but now the real PIA starts. They don't total it make sure you get diminished value and if they do total it expect to lose 5k just driving it off the lot. Be sure and give us a follow up.

Glad you are okay! I think it might be a total though with all the airbags out. Wait until the Insurance Adjustor checks it out before thinking it’s done. Good luck to you.

I checked into the salvage title issue and at least here in Michigan, that's not true. If you check with carfax, it will indeed list it as totaled, but the title itself remains clear. Also, the insurance company I settled with will no longer offer collision coverage on that car.

I have also been told that I would still be able (if I so desired) switch insurance companies and get collision coverage.

In my own case, I don't really care about collision coverage or that it might be salvaged. I have no intention of ever selling the car.
I'm old enough that this Malibu will be able to last the rest of my life.

No matter what happens in my case, ALWAYS check with YOUR state/insurance company rules & regulations.

Our cars have 8 airbags (driver steering wheel, passenger dashboard, knee bolsters for driver and passenger, two side curtain, two front seat torso). Each airbag costs $1800-2500 for the part alone. Then you add the $200 or so in labor to replace each one PER bag, and the airbag sensors and modules….. you’re easily at $20,000 in airbag replacement alone before you even take a screwdriver or wrench to the rest of the damage on the car.

I'm sorry for your loss. That said, your Camaro sacrificed it's life to save your life. It did it's job. Be thankful that you chose well when you bought that car. I'm glad you are still around to post this thread. My 1994 Z28 did it's duty and saved my life in an off-center head-on collision. I loved that car prior to the accident..and afterward...it was totaled and never ran again...but here I am. She served me well. This is why I buy these cars. They are robust, to make an understatement.

One of my friends smoked a deer in his 2019 SS and it looked very much like yours in the picture. He had it repaired and it is as good as new albeit it took six months to repair.

That is heartbreaking for sure... Hopefully it is repairable or you at least are able to get another one. 124 days is not long enough with your dream car

Totally get your sentiment, it's basically the same situation for me, my dream car/first new car ever. This has to work out for you, it's just gotta!!

My dad had a green '72 Nova SS that he totaled hitting a dear in 1978. The car had about 100,000 miles, and he dearly (no pun, haha) loved it. He took the cash payout, and the car, after I told him that I could fix it for him, being the almighty teenager that I was.

I went to a local junk yard and purchased an entire front clip, and a new radiator. My biggest obstacle was the front cross member was pushed back about 10". I put a chain around it, attached to a telephone pole, started the car, put it in reverse, and pulled it back near to original placement. It was good enough to be able to reinstall the replacement parts.

It took several days for me do the work, and when it was finished it went in for front alignment. Everything setup to spec. My dad was super happy to have his car back. I spent about $600 on parts (no labor charged). He received $1800 in the insurance settlement. I urged him to get the front painted to match the rest of the car, as the replacement clip was orange! He didn't care, driving that car for another 60,000 miles when it was involved in another crash. . with a deer. That was the end for the "dear" Nova.

Things were much simpler back then when it came to car repairs. However, what's the same is the grace of walking away from an accident that could have had catastrophic result.

Rejoice in living another day, and having opportunity to find another car if need be.

Purchase price was $60,300 (after sales tax and dealer fees, which NYS mandates insurers to include in valuations). Driving off the lot likely killed 10%, and the 4000 miles another $320. I’d expect a valuation of about $54k. Typical total value around here is around 75%. That’s just about $40k. If I got lucky and the dead-center collision spared the front suspension and the frame while not damaging the engine, there’s a chance that airbags plus another $20k gets the job done. I’m certainly hoping that’s the case!

Second GM product to keep me safe (was in an accident in 2006 in my 2003 GMC Sonoma). I’m very in tune with my vehicles and I’m very thankful for what they’ve done for me.

I agree. Luckily I got 4 years in the alpha chassis prior to this in my 2.0T Camaro. This was just the the coolest thing I’ve ever owned. Hoping for a miracle.
