Saw my 1st ZL1 at the track

I was at a local track saturday. And there in line was a ZL1. Plus this is the 1st one, I had seen anywhere. I talked to the guy for a little while. It ran a 12.90 stock. then he put a tune in it, and it went low 12.80s. After talking, he said its a fat, heavy pig. Now thats his words not mine, before you guys hammer me. He said he tried every traction mode. But got his best times with it off, and him driving it out of the hole. he told me he was very dissappointed with the cars performance. But still liked its looks.

I would have expected it to run in the high 11's or low 12's.

Me too, especially with a proper tune. I'm not trying to insult the guy, but he may not be the most keen driver.
There is an 1/8th mile track locally, when it opens again I am thinking of taking it and seeing how well I do.

I think these things would really wake up with a better intercooler and tune. I still in my heart of hearts believe that the QC hold was so they could change the tune in these cars from what they were displaying to what they are now. There is no doubt that they have definately been underperforming by a large margin on the dyno and the track from the cars that GM said they were selling.

Cool

Not knocking the ZL1. but for the extra $20,000.00 you could make a SS out run the ZL1, including the appearance change, who needs the dual exhaust mode, and the magnetic ride...................... JRJ

Actually you could do it for less than $20000 but whether you put 10K, 20K, or 30K into it it's still a SS. I can't take an SS over a ZL1 but that's just me. Plus I'm putting about 10K into mine so it's gonna be pretty bad ass when I'm done

for $20k, you can make any car faster than a ZL1. So start with a $500 used Honda.

Stick or auto? Either way that's crawlin' for the car's power level.

Stock tires? With drag radials and good conditions, and a great driver, it should run high 11's.

The air was good. My junk ran the best ET, it has ever run at this track. It was a stick car. I think it had stock tires. Funny but thats one thing, I really did not look at.
