A no option 1SS is about 70 pounds less that a loaded 2SS with a full tank of gas.. With only a 1/4 tank of gas in a 1SS, the difference should be much more.. His car really should have weighed in around 3600 pounds if it's a no option 1SS with a 1/4 tank of gas.

I know one thing, on the C6Z just after it came out a couple of psychos over on corvetteforum actually took the equipment out of the car that differed between a fully loaded car and the no options absolutely lightest car possible and the grand total was 24 lbs. That is the weight of 4 gallons of gas. Pretty much a joke trying to save weight by getting the base configuration there and I've seen that play out before.
I'm on an extremely so internet connection so I cant go search but my guess is the actual 1ss versus 2ss weight difference isn't going to be worth spit when equipped with the same transmission. The auto being the only thing which packs much extra weight and is of course available in both so cant be considered a model difference. |

My advise is for people who can afford either car. Being that both cars offer a lot of the same things. |

Yep, a c6z only weighed 20-30lbs less than my 1lt c6, and the c7s got heavier than the c6's by about 100lbs or so when you compare base models, and it goes up from there depending on how you compare them. A c7 z51 is like 200lbs+ more than my 1lt c6 was.
Personally I like the c6/camaro6's exterior style over the c7 overall and think that the c7/camaro6's interior are worlds better than my c6, like analog vs digital lol. So I figured the camaro is the best of both worlds for me, equally as good in the curves as my c6, equally as good in a straight line, and a much more modernized interior with far more standard features than the c6

Now what some of us hoped for was to take the aluminum frame and put it in a base car and try to get the weight of on an LS3 Corvette under 3,000 pounds. That might have been interesting. Also, one of the biggest mass hits for the C7 is the steel torque tube that was required to get AFM to actually be drivable. That was aluminum in the C6. I think that is nearly a 50 pound increase alone. So CAFE and FE performance added weight to the C7. Also, and I never saw the numbers, the aluminum body going across the board required enabling a convertible. The C6 Z06 frame couldn't do that. That's why it had a bolted in, non-removable roof panel. So it is possible that the aluminum body in the C7 is heavier than what it was in the C6 Z06. Just lighter than the steel counterpart would have been.

I would have bought that.....an frc base c6 under 3000lbs. But like you said, the aluminum frame wouldn't have supported anything else. I think they got it within 5-10% as rigid as the steel frame though, but they still needed a fixed roof I've heard GM tested some aluminum frame targa top c6z's on their test track and it didn't come out exactly perfect

2-5lb variations from car to car in the same production run are to be expected. Depending if there was a mid-year update or revision, it could be as much as 20lbs However, there's no way that your car came in 60lbs lighter, it's simply not possible. |

Horsepower and weight are the key factors. You guys need to run the numbers. All else being equal, 40 lbs is a 4/100ths of a second different. Plug in your numbers here:

I think BMR scaled their loaded 2SS (with MRC) at 3,703lbs or something like that. I remember them posting it here and over on M6G and commenting about how it was lighter than a base GT.
