i know a 302 maybe impossible to compete with the gt350 but what do you guys think the smallest displacement would be needed to out do the gt350? I think if they talk to lingenfelter for a flat plane 327 and a lighter car that could do it.

If they do decrease displacement, I would like to see what a destroked LS7 could do. 4.125 bore x 3.622 stroke would be a 387 cu in and have a much higher rpm capability.

I couldn't agree more. Everyone keeps saying just throw the LT4 in it, well if that's done then more than likely it will give the Hellcat a fight, but get slaughtered by the GT500. The signs are all there, if you can't see them shame on you. Some of the tech from the GT350 and the new Ford GT will end up in the next GT500, and with the new rear suspension and magnaride ford has I think the handling advantage will be null. If I was a betting man, the new GT 500 will not have less horsepower than the last one (662HP), and more than likely weigh less. The next ZL1 replacement better bring more than just great handling to the table this go round because I don't think that's going to get it done against the next GT500.

The only reason I ask is because some mustang guys get salty when comparing a 7.0L to a 5.2L engine.

Let them get salty. Complaining about our displacement advantage would be like us complaining about their redline advantage.

Not too mention apples to oranges. All else being equal, I'm just more liable to own a Silverado or Colorado period haha

I'm torn, Im an impatient bastard. So I just sold my 2003 xterra, and got a 2012 4Runner and in the process of selling my 2011 SS so I can put some more money aside for a house. Plan is is to wait until 2017 for a used 2016, but I know if they come out with a HiPo model in 2017 I'm not going to be able to resist. Hell, who needs a house right lol?! I hope it's under $65k, I think I'd be able to contain myself until I'm able to get a used sub $60k Z camaro with 650 hp.

I am a current Mustang guy and former Camaro guy. The whiners who complain about the displacement advantage of the LS/LT series motors are clueless. The engineers use different ways to achieve the same goal, high horsepower, emissions and warranty friendly engines. I hope all 3 continue to outdo each other every model year. As long as they do, it is you and I, the consumers, who win. One of the big three is going to get a nice chunk of change (of mine) come 18-19. I am excited to see which manufacturer builds my next car!

Zl1 to get the LT4 at 650HP and try to get the weight down to under 3800Lb for the car, maybe Adaptive Cruise Control for that ride.
Z/28 to get the new 454 with 575 Hp and for fun call it a LT2, get the weight down to 3400 Lb, get the car lower then now and make a super track car out of it, run 18" rims on it with 305 on all corners, last bring it in with a price point that more car nuts can buy it, and last do it fast before CAFE standers hit. I know this may not happen but its fun to ask. |

ZL1 with 625+rwhp, none of this 580-hp rating only to put down 450-rwhp.
