Building a Tougher Camaro

Hello all

I am looking to make my Camaro a good bit tougher. I currently own a 2010 2SS. I live in Philadelphia where there are potholes literally on every street (some up to 6" deep). The camaro is my daily driver and I would like to be able to make it so that I can simply drive without worrying about every bump or ditch in the road. So my question is what do I need to do to it to help it out?

Please serious help only. I made a thread about building a off road for the same reason, and got mocked the whole time. I'm hoping now that I cleared up my purpose for this I can get serious help.

Sorry to hear that the streets of Philadelphia have 6" deep potholes. trying living in Western New York, they are 6' here...lol

Anyway, you bought a sports car, so is my recommendation. Buy an SUV for your daily driver and use you camaro for High way driving, where the roads should have have those pesky potholes. Sorry, but asking about making a sport car an off road capable vehicle just becuase you leave in an area where you have 6" potholes is going to get you razed.

First you want a tire with a large sidewall to help absorb the impact of the potholes. If you damage the rims possibly go with the a steel wheel which is more easily repaired.

For potholes, you'd probably need a softer suspension with some lift. If you want to raise the car for daily driving, you might want to consider an airbag suspension. You can raise and lower the car that way for various conditions of road and driving.

Yea I figure the 21" tires I have on there have to go. I was also thinking of some sort of steel plate under the car to help protect everything. I'm only 20 years old so unfortunately I dont know to much about cars yet. I was honoring someone with some experience could help? I'm sure I need to build up the suspension somehow. However I have no clue about anything on suspension.

Thank you for your serious input, unfortunately I have almost no knowledge on suspension. Could you send me a link to a example of some sort so I could read up a bit on the matter.

6" pot holes are the good streets around here in NYC. I doubt anything you do will absorb these types of pot holes besides buying a 4x4.

You could try Air Lift, Air Ride, or Ride Tech. Some of these suspensions have been known to be used in high-performance applications, so you can still take your Camaro seriously in racing events.

The only thing I can think of to do would be that since you have the 21" wheels is find or buy a set or 18" wheels and buy tires with taller sidewalls. I say this because I have a 1LT with the factory spoke wheels and factory all seasons and they have taller sidewalls on them and they might help the situation. Usually potholes and sports cars are not a good mix.

Get rid of the 20 inch wheels and get some nice 17's
