I believe New Hampshire already has similar laws, but without the bankrupting penalty.
Maybe this is how the Libs expect to pay up the Detroit Bankruptcy.

You here that Johnny, load up the truck with all of those stock exhaust systems we replaced last year, we're going to Michigan and opening up a reinstall your stock exhaust shop. The muffler guys are going to get money on both ends now, LOL

Its not always about ground shaking changes. Sometimes, its just about spreading the word. Voicing a concern...its not about storming the capital with pitch forks.
I'd rather at least be AWARE rather than know nothing at all...see the difference now? Everyone likes to think theres nothing they can do about it, and so they do nothing, and the trends continue.

from the looks of reading it, the fine will be $100 if you have an aftermarket exhaust. I may have misread its subcategories though

And you know damned well what's going to happen. The vast majority of people who vote are going to think "hmm, this sounds like like a good idea. This should keep those darned kids from putting those loud mufflers on the crappy cars." I sent an email to all the representatives on that posting, and I would advise anyone else against this to do the same.

Most states (and probably Michigan) already have laws governing loud exhausts, they just aren't enforced much. It sounds like someone rapped their pipes while parked next to a congressman and pissed him off..lol

Louisiana has two of em...one says you have to have a muffler and the other is you can't modify your exhaust to make it louder.
I personally I like the sound of a quality aftermarket system especially on a V8....but, unfortunately there's the dip $hits that run straight pipes and like to rack em at all hours of the day and night (alot of shift workers down here that do have to sleep during the day). With that, all the government haters, go hate on the redneck down the road and thank them for screwing it up for everyone else. The government only steps in when they feel the general puplic is to stupid for their own good and they feel the need to regulate and protect them. |

IF this passes, I really hope people are smart enough to claim that their exhaust was modified before this law went into effect. No ex post facto.

I bet it will. the number of people who actually enjoy hearing a car go buy with exhaust loud enough to rattle windows is a very tiny number. I really don't get why people are surprised by this. It's like everything else in life, people have to take stuff to extremes trying to outdo the next guy. that the public will demand laws to curb excess behavior is inevitable.
