Looking through new Long Blocks
I'm considering just buying an all new engine vs forging my current L99. Would anyone care to tell me what all is missing on a long block?
Also why is it that if you look at lingenfelter vs TSP there is a huge price difference. Is that because lingenfelter is listing their installed price? Oh, and also I have seen alot of people get LSX blocks but not anyone who has the LS7 blocks. Why is that? |

Most of the time a long block is everything except the intake, water pump, oil pan and pullies. I see your in Ohio so you might want to check with Livernois Motorsports, they have MANY options to suit your needs. Their site is Livernoismotorsports.com. Good luck.

LSX is one of the strongest motors out there, but cost wise you will spend way more for the long block, and if you do an LS7 it wouldn't be much stronger than your L99.

I'm having trouble finding what cams they put in them. Do they put in stock cams unless requesting a different one?

The LS7 block is pretty much the weakest engine block when it comes to these LS engines. Typically, if someone is wanting 427+ CID we recommend a resleeved LS3 block, an LSX block, or, at the top tier, and RHS block. As far as cams, for a longblock, we include our custom camshaft in the build pricing, but we do have many options for custom tailor it to your specific needs. Feel free to give us a call if you have any other questions. |

I have looked at their flyers, but have not seen one in person. We have never had any LSX block issues, but I have seen where some people have. I guess it just depends on how hard you want to push it. The only way I would consider it superior would be in CGI instead of gray iron.

Mast Motorsports is a big player in the LS world as well.
Call around and research a few to determine what's best for you.

If you are looking to do a NA stroker that runs on pump gas, you could just keep running an aluminum stock block. I'd only go LSX, RHS, Dart for a power adder or extreme compression NA setup.

Well I have most other car parts for my build except the engine and tranny. I already purchased my vortech ysi. I'm thinking of running about 12 lbs and prob meth for safety. I just want something that won't break while running 93octane.
Originally I was going to pay for someone to put in forged pistons, rods, arp studs, ls3 convesion and cam. But if that's gunna cost 5k and a long block is 9k ish. Why not go for keeps?? I can put an engine in a car but I don't want to deal with the headache of working on engine internals. Last edited by K32 Camaro; 01-17-2013 at 05:19 AM. |
