Angry Dust from salt spreaders!

Is it just me or is there more dust from the salt spreaders these days? Damn we get 1/2" of snow, and they put this stuff down like it was a blizzard! I ONR'd my car not even 2 days ago, and already it has a thick coating in the back

Not sure I remember it this thick years ago, and I have driven dark cars all my life.

It's either that or it's the Camaro effect?

Thats why I don't drive mine in the winter, but to side with you, they are terrible here in toronto. I have a newer truck as well and hate when they put all that salt down.

Yup which is why I don't drive mine in the winter they cake the roads here in salt.

I was on the highway the other day and had to pass a salt truck and when I got home it looked like I drove through a mine field, entire car was covered.

Utah Department of transportation is the same way. They LOVE to dump the salt on the roads here and then bitch that their salt budget is blown by mid January. It's excessive. It's so bad sometimes you can taste it in your mouth they dump so much and the dust is in the air. That's why I'm grateful to have another car I can drive in the winter months in here.

I see the same thing here in Saint Louis, MO (the powder salt). For me the Camaro is a daily commute car so if I feel it is excessive (the salt) then I will take it in to a place that will wash the underside of the car. I think with proper maintenance and cleaning the car of salt every so often it will last. Living near a sea is more harmful to the car long term IMHO. I wouldn't over stress about it.

The New England state's DOTs are moving to a new salt brine mix where they mix the salt with a mixture of water and either calcium chloride or magnesium chloride. If the good old weathman forecast a storm or ice event, you may have noticed that the roads are prewetted with stripes of this brine liquid. Supposedly, this mixture works to deice down to lower temps than just plain old salt. This may be part of the dust increase cuz this stuff dries out quick. Bad stuff for our cars, keep them as clean as your can or keep them off the road if possible til spring showers wash it off the roads.

No I noticed a lot of salt dust here in Hickville the other day and it didn't even snow, that was the day it rained an turned to freezing rain and then back to rain. They salted like they were expecting a blizzard. I guess they have a surplus from last year. Or the highway workers just wanted to kill them with the double time.

Judging by the upcoming weather for next week, it looks as though we will once again have a surplus of salt. I guess we can only hope for a drenching rain to wash the dust away.

I drove from Ohio to Maryland yesterday after weeks of constant snowfall and my red car was covered in so much salt spray it looked completely white! Needless to say, the first thing I did after pulling in my driveway was wash it good, even though it was only 43 out. On the plus side, with my winter tires on I didn't have too much trouble getting out of my mom's driveway in Ohio after I removed the foot of snow covering my car.
