I have a '16 SS. Do you guys bother with premium gas?

I only use premium but if you want to use regular go ahead. It's your car.

close this thread.

do a search.

you'll find literally a hundred identical threads already.

absolutely nothing productive or informative will come out of this thread. Just a repeat of the same argument for it, and the same arguments against it. Nobody will be convinced they're wrong, nobody will be convinced both sides are right.

Yes, you must use at least 91. 93 is recommended.

Bothered to pay a lot of the money for the car, so figured I'd bother to follow the recommendations of the manufacturer.

If you can't afford to feed it Premium fuel then you purchased more car than you can afford to operate. The LT1 needs 93 octane in order to deliver the 455 HP & 455 TRQ. Anything less and you're not going to get that out of it.

Not only do a search on this topic, but also read the owners manual; "93 octane RECOMMEND" not ONLY or SHALL or MUST.... It's only recommended -but I would be in the camp that you should. As said here, the full performance numbers will not be achived with anything less. But I too cant find anything over 91 here either.

At high altitude, I think 91 is the equivalent of 93, at least what I remember living in New Mexico back in the day at 6000 feet...

Higher elevation requires less octane because thinner air tends to prevent detonation. Because of this, a car that would normally need 93, can use 91 and obtain the same results.

If you go to Denver Colorado, you won't find 87 Octane, you'll find 85 instead for example.

You are tha man! Thanks for that! The only place I've been able to find and use is Tom's Thumb (which ironically has some of the best "wet" brisket money can buy! You heard that right, a "gas station" has brisket better than many excellent bbq places, including the South). Anyway, I used to fill up (once a month) 95 octane for my heavily modded Mk 6 Golf R there. The only other place i know of is by Wild Horse Pass.
As far as the OP, there's no such thing as a stupid question, except for yours sorry...
