Just curious about the stories I've heard that the smaller wheel sizes won't clear Brembo brakes. and the wheels that DO clear the Brembo brakes won't fit in the spare tire well.
Though the front and rear rim/tire are different sizes on the SS, they have the same diameter. So the front wheel could be used on the rear without damage to the differential. I bought a used factory Camaro front rim, put at 245/45/20 tire on it, and strapped it in. It is not in the spare tire well. It's sitting securely in the trunk.

My carry on suitcase fits in the trunk with a lot of other stuff when I keep a
full tire & wheel strapped down in the trunk.

I found it was a little more expensive ($300) but a lot easier to just go with the spare tire kit sold online. The spare fit the well fine, but it does stick up a little bit but it's secure and doesn't take up much space in the trunk.

What's it strapped down to?

The steel strap eyelets are on the back wall of the trunk. These are intended to safely secure the full size wheel (see owner's manual) but this wheel position completely blocks the trunk.

Here is link to my thread showing how the OEM factory LS/LT V6 spare fits on the SS over the Brembo Calipers using an adapter. I documented steps with photos. Further, the factory spare will fit in the spare tire well in the trunk.

I am not saying any members choices are wrong. I was going to do a spare but then we got another new car and it doesn't have a spare either. More and more manufactures are going away from spares and I don't want to keep buying spares for each car. I just keep road side assistance and a plug kit just in case.

I know it won't do any good on blowout (the plug) but I have been lucky to only have 1 blow out in years.

Yea, I know the smaller wheel will work as a spare if you buy the spacer. I'm talking about a stock full size 2SS 20" wheel/tire fitting or not IN the spare tire well. I was told years ago that it would not and that was one of the reasons they didn't provide a spare.

GM would never lie to me would they?? (grin)

I pull the spare rearward to the right rear eyelet and strap it down. Nothing's
perfect. I just don't want to drive 70 MPH on the interstate with a donut
after I've blown a tire. I also keep AAA.

That's a good idea! I will try using one eyelet.

Thanks!

Had you searched you’d have found the answer. Seems like you’re rereaurrecting a thread that’s been spoken about PLENTY!

I have a spare as I’m not waiting a cpl hrs to be towed to a shop and wait even more and have it an inconvenience on me. Time is money. Period. If you have plenty of time you’re not making money.

This has been discussed many times here but you must remember there
are new people coming on camaro5 all the time. The OP is one of them
just surprised his recently purchased Camaro doesn't have a spare. He
just joined in April and may not know how to do a search. What would you
rather talk about here?

I have a BMW 7 series wheel, fits front and rear, sits on the trunk floor, I don't put anything in there so problem solved, its always seemed odd to have a wheel well shape in the floor with a battery in it, if your not going to put a wheel in there why bother.

The V6 Camaros actually have a spare tire that fits in the well.

Camaros probably only have one rear floor pan for both the 6 & 8.
It's designed for the 6 since the SS doesn't have a spare anyway.
