Service wait time
I took my car to the dealer today for my first oil change. I called Wednesday and made an appointment for 7:30 AM on Saturday. I get there and the service advisor tells me ohhh it will be about 2 hours. After the initial WTH, the wife and I walked around the area and went ahead and got breakfast. In their defense it only took 1.5 hours. I know next time to just drop it off. I've never waited that long for an oil change and it seemed excessive. How long do you guys wait for an oil change (that's if you take it to someone)?

I always do my own which takes about 20 minutes. The one time I did have the dealership do it took 45 minutes.

Just got mine done a few days ago. I tried to make multiple appointments with multiple dealers. Each one I called before-hand and each one said "no need for an appointment, just come in whenever." Well, they were all busy when I showed up. I was a little angry since they all said they could do it and then when time came it was a different story. I felt like nobody wanted to do it because it's a new car so that means I pay nothing.
I finally got it done. Dealer said they were busy and it would take 45 minutes to an hour...I was out of there in an hour and 15 minutes. My dealership is literally 10 minutes away from town in the middle of nothing and has horrible cell phone service. No waiting room. no TV, nothing. I was bored the entire time lol. |

I could do it myself but I only let them do it because my warranty gives me free oil changes. I know this so called "complimentary" oil change with a new car was paid for when I signed the paperwork and put all that money down lol. so I will make them do it until It's no longer free.

I do my own oil changes now, but when I would take my truck in it was almost always at least an hour and a half and this was with an appointment as well. I finally gave up on the dealership and started doing them myself.

I do my own, usually takes around an hour but I like to let it drain good, change the clutch fluid and do a good check over the entire car while I'm at it.
If you're going to waste 2 hours of your time for a oil change anyway, might as well do the work yourself and stop paying someone else and risking that they screw it up.

I made an appoint at Hendrick Chevrolet in Cary, NC to get a coolant drain/refill done. Normally about 30 minute job. I waited for just about 3 hours!
Plus side was they only charged me the 39.99 coupon I had even though my Camaro takes twice the coolant. Hardly worth my time though, I expected to go on my lunch break and my time at work is way more valuable than that. The only reason it went to the dealer was because I didn't want to dispose of the coolant and since it only needs to be done every 5 years it's worth the trouble. Also, they didn't say a word about the key recall, lol.

Made a 5 pm appointment at my dealer - at 3:30 last Thursday. Showed up at 4:30 - they took the car - I had a seat and it was done by 4:55.

I always just drop it off and let them do it at their convenience. I work across the street from my dealer, so it's pretty convenient.

End of the day is the best time to go for simple stuff like that.

I always take mine to the dealership to get it washed for free. They have filtered water, and wash it by hand. It takes them about an hour to do it. If I add an oil change, it only adds about 1/2 hour or less. It isn't that it takes them that long to do the actual job. They have all kinds of other warranty repair or paid repair jobs going on and they have to find someplace to squeeze it in between. I know they always prioritize my car, and get it done no matter how busy they are, even for a free wash. There is a little diner nearby and a couple of shops. I just chill out and eat breakfast, maybe hit a shop or two, and they have it ready and waiting when I get back.
