I'm looking for something that I believe will keep my eyes from "wondering", something that will still be "kick ass" in 15 years (i don't want to spend $60K + for a weekend driver and then 5 years later want something else cuz i lost interest)

For me those are:

C7 Z06
Camaro Six ZL1
Maybe the next FI mustang (GT 500?) if they come out with one
Challenger hellcat could be if it weighed 500 to 600 lbs less.

Cars like Mercedes AMG, BMW M3 M4, and others, while very impressive machines, I can't see them doing for me what I want long term.

I'm considering the following as the next car from my current 2013 370Z (with HKS Hi-Power catback, Stillen G3 CAI, and UpRev tune):

2015 or 2016 Stingray Z06
2016 Stingray 2LT
2016 Camaro 2SS

I was cross shopping between:
1) ATS-V
2) CTS Vsport
3) Camaro SS
4) Chevy SS
5) Corvette C7
in this order.

However, once I saw the real one at the MPG and heard it going WOT, I was sold.
ATS-V will be a nice car, but didn't want to buy 70K car that I will drive 20k miles or more a year.
CTS Vsport is very roomy, comfortable and have decent punch, but not sporty enough to have fun from time to time on track, when I want to take family out to track.
Chevy SS is great value car with familiar engine, but it is just too heavy, and has same problem as CTS Vsport, only bit cheaper (price) and bit cheaper (interior).
C7.... I love Corvettes a lot, but it just feels wrong to drive Corvettes during winter in Michigan, and this is the only car that doesn't have back seat out of all the cars I was considering. (I know I know.. Camaro's back seat isn't really for seating, some may say, but at least it's there for emergency use)

My Camaro should be built this week, and I'm very excited.
Cross shopping time is done for me, and it's cross finger time.

No one said it here yet I do not think but discussed at length elsewhere:

Used ZL1. Lots of reasons to choose the Z. But the CA6 SS sounds like a great car too.

As much as a ZL1 would be awesome, I don't want to have a used FI car that someone else has beat on, especially when you consider the 6th gen vs. 5th gen ZL1 is a driver's race, and a used ZL1 isn't much cheaper than a new SS.

Add little to no warranty on top of that, and there's very little temptation, for me at least. I know it's a more compelling choice to many others.

It all depends on exactly what you are looking for. When pricing is the only subject for cross checking, amount of vehicles that fit into that is crazy.

2 door, 4 door, suv, crossover etc. It pretty much includes every vehicle there is. If you are looking for performance, gen 6 from my research is the best bang for the buck (under 50k). Thus, I ordered one. Now, do you want 4 door performance? Hatch performance? A LOT of factors will make you decide on your vehicle.

Currently on my list is:

'16 Camaro 2SS
'16 Charger Scat Pack
'16 Mustang GT Premium

I've been much axed the Mustang, too many things I don't like. I picked the Charger instead of the Challenger because if I can get that kind of performance, might as well have 4 doors and space. 2SS is definitely the one I want right now, but things can change by the time I order next year. Definitely going to try to go V8 or bust this time.

Alternatives if I need to save some cash are:

'16 Camaro 2LT (V6)
'16 Charger RT
'16 VW GTI (will probably be able to get a great deal on one finally with Dieselgate!)

My cross shopping was a 2013-2015 ZL1. Overall I passed on the epicness of a ZL1 as the cost was still about 3K more than I wanted to spend over my 16 2SS, and the overall upkeep and cost was a huge factor. Also, the new G6 styling won me over.

Most who drive ZL1's do not drive the mileage I do. Based on the rating I would need new tires all the time, or need to buy a 2nd set of wheels and get daily driver tires. Also, once that warranty expires, I do not want to deal with costs of repairing a supercharged motor down the road. I plan to keep this car well beyond its warranty. Regardless all of the above added to the already $3K more price point and priced me out.

I chose a big family over a pricey car. Will have to wait for the kids to graduate college or my job to pay me even more to get to the higher tier and feel comfortable.

The Corvette went out the window simply because I do not fit. My back is to broad and the car is uncomfortable for me. Not to mention it falls in line with the pricing issue of the ZL1.

Last note: I just can't bare buying a car like this used. I take car of my cars beyond what most call reasonable It's a hobby and love for me, but overall most used cars... you have no idea how they were driven and the upkeep they really got.

Heh, the Camaro is my weird Cross-shop Gen6 performance numbers and a week in a gen5 made me crawl over here.

Mustang GT S550
BMW M5 E39
Merc C63
Camaro SS Gen6
135I

Camaro is probably out due to needing a bigger trunk opening and better visibility but it might be the car to take to the track for the funnest moments so it's tough to miss out on that.

I'm cross shopping the Camaro and a Corvette C7. I don't need the backseat so that has no influence on my decision. Just waiting to see what they do with the Vette for 2017. I'm hoping they worked out some of the bugs and hope it gets a little power bump.

I'm not sure how the 1 series is in trunk space, but my 328i is too swallow to put a lot of things. My wife's Fiesta actually can hold as much and some bigger items. Be sure to take one and see for yourself.

Don't crucify me...

But a Golf R. Instead of having a daily + a Camaro a 300hp R with AWD, 4 doors, 6-speed manual and a hatch for year-round fun seems tempting (AND practical. I need back seats.)

But I don't think I could be without a V8 in the garage.
