Goodyear Eagle F1 G3 any good?
http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=501636
Hey guys I posted this earlier in the ZL1 section with no luck. I could use some advice. Are the G3's okay to use on the 5th gen ZL1? Safe? Better? Worse? |

They are 30 ratio instead of 35. So you might have speedo issues. I think some people have run them though. And no for the money don't buy the goodyears in my opinion. If you have a zl1 get Michelin pilot super sports. The difference is night and day. Or wait for the 4s next year.
If it's a street driver only I'd recommend nitto nt555 g2 or bf Goodridge over the goodyears. But they aren't near the Michelin's in terms of handling and grip. Since you are posting in autocross section ... Get the Michelins. Best money I've ever spent on the zl1. Unless you want something for autocross then get Toyo r888. Sent from my XT1563 using Tapatalk

I have heard great things about Michelin's on the road but poor reviews on the track. I heard they get greasy when temps get up...?

Consensus is that the Goodyears run GREAT when hot, whereas a lot of other tires, especially in the Max performance category, lose grip when hot. Since you track your car, maybe the Goodyears would be a decent option. There's probably a good reason that Chevy picked them as the tire for the 1LE. You probably won't find a better track tire unless you go to the Competition DOT category.

Get the Pilot Sport 4S. I have them 285/35 all the way around on 10 wide rims and she just sticks. Much better than my MPSS I had on for 27K miles.

To the OP, what is your intended use for the car? Track and autocross, just street with little track/autocross time? That will be the key. The new G3 is being proven to be the hot tire and performs quite well on the 6th gen 1LE. I know of only 1 car that has run the Optima series and a CAM challenge on the G3's and is kicking the hell out of cars on other brands.

Only problem with the new G3 is they don't have tires specified for our cars. They are rated for a lighter load rating. I passed on them and bought two sets of the G2s.

I just got my rear F3's in 305/30. Be aware they are a full 13" wide. My 315 Nitto drag radials measure 12" wide. Gonna be very close fit for my set up. Might not work.

I worried about this also, but then I figured if they can handle the weight of a 2017 ZL1, I should be okay with my 5th gen SS.

I just burned through a set of the new F1 G3 this month. They are pretty good, they warm up faster than the g2 and stick like glue for 3 laps but then they get a little greasy, but they don't have the huge fall off like the g2. They never got too greasy to drive on but there was a pretty big difference from lap 2 and lap 10 (2.5 seconds). I liked the extra pull in 3rd gear I got with the 30 aspect ratio. I got tired of burning through 3 or 4 sets of street tires a summer so I just ordered new wheels and track tires, now my street tires will just be the BF Goodrich cheapies because Tokyo Drift haha! Overall it's a better track tire and I didn't notice much difference on the street.
