My history of Camaro ownership...
1974 Type LT Camaro - L48 (350 4bl) /3 speed auto 1985 Z28 - LB9 (305 TPI)/4 speed auto 1995 Z28 - LT1/6 speed manual 2010 SS - LS3/6 speed manual (current) Debating on a 6th gen 1LE...we'll see... ** Interesting facts on my 2nd gen ('74)... The Type LT replaced the RS option. The letters LT stood for 'Luxury' and Touring,' at least according to the sales brochure at the time. The LT option gave you a 'plusher' interior with different seats, door panels, color coordinated interior pieces, etc. It included a host of sound deadening materials all over the interior. The goal was a quieter/nicer cabin. It also came with the 350 V8 as part of the option package. The Type LT came with a 'Meridian Walnut' applique on the instrument cluster, with full instrumentation, including the rally clock. In terms of the walnut finish, think cheap looking, fake wood vinyl on the instrument cluster. In terms of the rally clock, think a clock that is guaranteed right two times a day. There were 48K Camaros built with the Type LT option, out of a total of 130K+ for the model year. One could combine the Type LT option with the Z28 option, much like our SS/RS combo of today. The console and console mounted shifter were still an option in '74. Yep, one could still get a column mounted shifter for the automatic tranny. The '74 model year saw the introduction (mid-year) of electronic ignition, better known as HEI to GM owners at the time. Yep, no more points to adjust! 1974 also saw a limited try by the government to push seat belts that had to be buckled if they sensed weight in them...They killed that mid model year due to a huge public outcry, but for those of us whom owned a '74 anything, you had a seats with a wire mesh underneath and plugs connected to an ignition interlock system. If you put a bag in the passenger seat that weighed too much, you wound up having to buckle the seat belt, or the car would not start. Believe it or not, one could even order a 'trailer towing package' in '74 for the Camaro. Not many took that option, and the build numbers indicated only 389 cars were built with it. The base motor in '74 was a six cylinder rated at 100 HP. They called it the turbo-thrift, as opposed to the V8s, which were branded the turbo-fire and went up to 185 HP in the camaro coupe. The hottest motor was the Z28 option with the 245 HP L82 350. The '74 was the last year before catalytic converters, which were added in '75. There were eleven colors available in '74. My LT was midnight blue with a black interior. I bought my '74 in 1983 and it served me faithfully through high school and college. The sticker for the Type LT started at $3,380 and went up as you added more options. I paid $1700 for mine used w/ 100K miles on it. Anyway, some interesting facts about one of my prior Camaros. Later, David |

I've owned 3. Two 3rd Gens and my current 5th gen.
1983 Berlinetta 5.0 auto, t-tops, charcoal gray 1989 RS 5.0 5 spd, t-tops, black 2013 LS 3.6, 6 spd manual, black (unfortunately no t-tops ) I loved all of them, the '83 for being the 1st, the '89 because I really learned to DRIVE in that one and the '13 because it blows the doors off the other 2 .
