Zl1 choice # 1!! Less modding, less modding ,less modding already has basically everything from Factory oh and less modding needed. But, if you get enjoyment out of modding SS is perfect platform.

Love the mean growl of the SS, and the winding of the super charger is like needing a cigar after rough sex: win win.

Thanks everyone for all the insights.

I saw a couple references to the "tight" seating and entry / exit issues with the ZL1. This concerns me as I am not small.

A Member also mentioned that the acceleration is pretty close between the 2 for the first few gears. I enjoy burnouts and acceleration much more than traveling fast and I'm usually off the gas after 3rd gear. Maybe the SS with non-Recaro seats is the best choice.

Going to the dealer today to check out ergonomics etc on SS (no ZL1 in stock).

Thanks again.

Go for a test drive then. I'm 5'10" and it's fine for me. I'm a fairly lean fellow however.

The ZR1 is pretty crazy and would be a sweet occasional use car. The Camaro is more of a daily driver.

Planning to order a 2018 Camaro SS or ZL1 convertible with M6 trans.

This car will not be a daily driver but rather a nice day / joy ride toy.

It will get driven hard on the street as opportunity allows but likely never go the the drag strip or a road course.

My question to this group is:

is the ZR1 experience so great that a loaded SS just can't compare or is the SS close enough that one would be better off saving the extra money etc ?

I would appreciate your thoughts and experiences.

Thanks for your time.
Misspelling there in last question? ZR1 - Top trim Corvette, Zl1 - 2nd highest trim Camaro.

If I had the cash, I would have gotten the ZL1.
What kind of road courses are you looking to do? A convertible without rollover protection could disqualify you from certain events

AS many have said, if cash is not an issue, definitely get the ZL1. The only reason I could see not too is like you said, if you have problems getting in and out of it. But even then I’d get it haha. It will never (for the most part) leave you wanting more. You get used to the SS very quickly, at least I did and if I had the money I would definitely have gotten the ZL1.

ZL1 is still the highest trim Camaro. The 1LE package alters the vehicle and makes it a faster road course car but slower in the 1/4 and top speed.

If money is no object then get the ZL1, especially since you are not planning to use it as a daily driver. I could not justify the ZL1 as a daily, so I went with the 1LE.

I see you are in Michigan, aka worst state in the union for car insurance. When I was shopping for my car, Decision #1 was had to be a convertible. So Corvette Z06, Grand Sport, Camaro ZL1, and SS were on the table. Insurance for the SS Convertible was ridiculous. Insurance for all the others was "get the <rhymes with duck> outta my face". I have an incredibly clean driving record.

As it turns out, the Fifty convertible caught my eye. So even though it's 455 hp compared to 650, the opportunities to utilize anywhere near the max potential of the SS are few and far between. For the ZL1, even fewer and farther between. I would never be able to justify paying all the extra insurance for a benefit I wouldn't really use.

If you buy the SS, get the M6. The A8 has issues and AFM.
