That's an impressive mph! It is quite a bit higher than I thought it would go. It looked like it was running out of steam at 180 when watching the video of it on the ring. It's a shame the manual is only geared to run out of breath so much sooner than the a10.

Congratulations to Al O and the entire Camaro ZL1 Team on a job very well done. I believe this is the first production vehicle over 200 MPH with a $66,000 price tag. Nicely done team!!!

MotorTrend: Supercharged beast is fastest production Camaro ever

The Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 managed to hit 202.3 mph in one direction on the 7.6-mile long high-speed oval at Germany’s Automotive Testing Papenburg proving ground.

The official top speed, however, is 198 mph, the average achieved by running the car in both directions and compensating for wind speed.

The ZL1 recorded a top result of 193.3 mph running in the other direction.

Don't forget to thank Ford the A10 was a Ford GM combined effort, it will be available in the new Twin Turbo GT500.

Now Motor Trend claims that the manual ZL1 is faster than the Grand Sport around Willow Springs. It really begs the question if the Corvette or the Camaro is the top dog at GM right now.

And the evidence is here.

Plus, keep in mind the Gen 6 ZL1 has less (I think 2%) frontal area than a Gen 5 ZL1. That's significant when you reach these sorts of speeds.

Finally, the car has all sorts of strakes, scoops, chutes, and covers to reduce lift and drag at high speeds.

ZL1 is the real deal!!
I also have a C7 Z06 with the Z07 Performance Pkg. & Stage three clear wicker adjustable aero AKA/ "Giant Parachute Spoiler". Top speed is limited to approx. 185 mph by the aero. The Corvette Team justification for this is needed for down force & vehicle control and track performance. They wanted a track racer more than a top speed racer because >200 mph is rarely needed in real world track situations. The fact is the Z06 is much lighter compared to 2017 ZL1 Camaro so I find the 202 mph very impressive because the Camaro LT4 pushes much more weight even with C7 Z06 lower body drag coefficient (Stage 3 spoiler excluded.)
This does not put me in a "pissed off" state. Just ecstatically happy. I love them both and can hardly wait to take delivery of my 2017 ZL1 A10.

A True Supercar

The Jalopnik review asserts the 2017 Camaro ZL1 is truly 200 mph plus speed demon that I feel belongs in the ranks of the so-called "super cars" of European, Japanese and American manufacture. This is what the article states:

"Going down one of the straightaways the car maxed out at 193.3 mph, but going the other way it actually topped 200, ringing the bell at 202.3 mph. Average those two together to get rid of any wind advantage/disadvantage, and you get 198." ...........

"But here’s the crazier bit. With just the lightest of modifications – the camber set at zero degrees and the tires pumped all the way up to maximum pressure – Chevrolet actually says the ZL1 regularly topped 200. On average. Even after accounting for wind."

No add-ons. Bone stock; just camber adjustment, over-inflated tires and the A10 10 spd. automatic transmission yields 200 mph plus speeds on a race track. That is as opposed to a straight-line all out run. Just imagine what a WOT straight run could accomplish on the speedo.

I believe I have read in this forum that the 2017 ZL1 6 spd. manual has topped in the 180's mph in 5th gear due to gear ratios.

Both cars are great performers but it seems to me that the people who have waited for the A10 at least will have bragging rights. However, the cost of those rights, and performance, come at at the steep cost of $3695 plus tax. That seems to be a "reasonable" cost to me.

M6 topped out at 173 according to Hennessy. The auto doesn't quite cost that much more. It is $2395 more than the manual.
