That is seriously impressive. Takes lots of power to do that regardless of the gearing.

Hennessey topped an M6 out at 173mph in 5th. Went to 6th but it wouldn't pull. 6th is just too tall.

I've done some maths... In the A10, 6500 rpm in 7th will have the car moving at 184 mph. A shift at that speed to 8th, will only drop the revs to about 5600 rpm. The engine is producing well over 600 hp at that point, plenty to keep accelerating through the air to its top speed (wind resistance), at about 6050 rpm. In the M6...at 6500 rpm in 5th, the car is moving at 171 mph. A shift to 6th at that speed will drop the revs to just under 4300 rpms. The engine is producing about 100 hp less than the A10 at that mph. Not enough to push dramatically faster through the air...It is likely that top speed in the M6 ZL1 is going to be limited by gearing and redline to 174 mph in 5th. Or perhaps mid-to-high 170s in 6th on a very long straight like this one. They run in both directions on the track and average the two runs to take into account wind speed differences (tail wind vs head wind). 193 mph w/ head wind. 202 mph w/ tail wind.. 198 mph average. |

The recent Vette spy photos indicate to me that the Vette boys will gain their crown back via ZR1 and the mid engine car...That I feel is why Camaro keeps encroaching on their turf and letting it happen.

Wow, that's amazing and a lot faster than the 5th Gen ZL1. Impressive. I think the C7 ZO6 top speed is 200-205 mph depending on the aero package. It makes you wonder how fast the mid engine Vette is going to be?
