Spare Tire

I did a search on this subject and didn't see anything posted. Just wanted to let those of you interested know if you want a compact spare tire you can use one off of a Pontiac G8. It is about an inch shorter, however I bolted it on the front of my car and it cleared the brakes and spun freely. I don't have a lot of confidence in those run flats so I wanted something if I take a long trip. Only thing that sucks is I have a convertible, and with the spare in the trunk that means no top down. Peace of mind is more important though.

Very interesting and cool!

Do you think it will fit in place of a rear wheel? How much might one expect to pay for such and animal, and what are you carrying for a jack and lug wrench?

What engine brakes do you have? Are there any differences between engine brake combos?

I'm not saying there should be penalties for stupidity,
but why don't we just take the warning labels off everything and let the problem solve itself.

Question

There might be a problem running one tire smaller than the other on the rear

I have an RS convertible with a 2.0T. I know the G8's had performance brakes but not sure if this would clear an SS. As for a jack I plan on getting a bottle jack from Harbor Freight as it is compact and then a breaker bar, socket and cordless impact. I picked my spare up for $50 from a salvage yard we use at our shop.
As for running it on the rear, Due to our cars having limited slip I wouldn't, if a rear goes flat I would take a front and move it to the rear and run the spare on the front. It is a pain but better than damaging the rear diff.
