What kind of parking ticket is this? UPDATE

Just got a letter in the mail saying I have a parking ticket that is past due. Only problem is I never got a ticket. I never even parked anywhere that would warrant one. Even better is at the date and time it was issued, my car was parked IN MY GARAGE! It was issued about 15 minutes before I left for work in my other car. I'm so pissed!

Has this happened to anyone?

Probably a scam to get you to send money to scammers.

Well, they sent my dad a ez pass violation and the photo of the car wasn't my fathers and the plate number was written differently then was pictured on the car.

I would call and fight that its there screw up, he got his corrected but I don't think there is a photo proof of the plate on your ticket as its a parking violation. You could probably still fight it though.

Chris, it sounds like a scam. Can you tell us what the letter says and what it is asking you to do specifically?

The IRS is still expecting that $4,750 in back taxes sent immediate via western union. Get on it.

Does any of this sound familiar?

Verify if it's legit, then dispute it immediately, you don't want to come out to find a Denver boot on your ride!

Well I went on www.browardclerk.or to look it up and it has my citation number on file.

I just called the number listed. She told me it was issued at Fort Lauderdale airport. I haven't been within 75 miles of there in over a year. Not to mention I only bought this car less than 2 months ago and havent left town with it. They have both my vin and dealer temp plate number. I don't get how this can happen.

It was a scam here (made local news) or well it sounds like the exact same scam. Especially if no physical address, phone #, etc is provided. If such are provided, call or make a f2f appearance.

I got one for a Ford truck parked in a town 150 miles away when I was driving an El Camino. This was back in 1977.

One number off on a plate either written on a ticket or entered wrong into the system can do this.

I talked to a very understanding person at the police dept and all was taken care of.

Was this ticket dated after you switched from the dealer temp plate to the regular (different) plate number?

Parking tickets are a racket, a scam, theft under color of authority.

I parked on a street in Houston... fed the meter for an hour's worth of parking. Got back to my car in 20 minutes (40 minutes remained on the meter!), to find a parking ticket on my windshield. Then I noticed EVERY single car on the entire block had parking tickets. All had full meters, no violation... but EVERYBODY got parking tickets.

The fine was $50. If one wants to CONTEST it, you show up at the date on the citation, and you wait around all day until you are called. Then you "enter your plea." You will then be given ANOTHER date, in which they will review whether or not your claim has warrant... in which case, ANOTHER date will be given for you to present and argue your case.

So... a MINIMUM of three days or missed work/ sitting in the courthouse (which I am quite certain would only end with, "You are lying, sir... our officer witnessed a violation... pay the fine!")... or just pay the $50.

Fluck you, Houston Parking Enforcement... you are dirty thieves.

They did provide a phone number, address, and website. All match up to Broward County clerk of court.

I called them and she said to mail in my notice with a letter stating my case.

Unfortunately no, I was still using the dealer tag the day the citation was issued.
