5 pages on the topic, and you choose to ask the same question that's been discussed for 5 pages instead of reading? Come on dude.

As everyone is saying on here, octane ratings really dont affect performance in the sense of mpg. It CAN however sometimes feel smoother and cleaner, which brings me to my real point. Higher Octane rated fuel won't necessarily boost your car, CLEANER gas will. Not every station is the same, even if they have the same ratings. Gas stations that are attached to giant department stores are what i would avoid. Private gas and oil companies usually have cleaner and longer lasting fuels, and I would definitely drive the extra couple of miles to keep the gas tank happier. Down here I tend to stick to Shell and Valero down here, sometimes Chevron. When I'm feeling squirrely, I tend to pay a visit to our local VP station.

Even Big name brands like Shell stations can have differences. I am tempted to call the number on the pump and have my local Shell investigated to see if the 93 tank actually has 93 in it. Several times after getting gas there my car has felt like it is using the low octane timing tables. Power was way down. When i use the Shell near my office 40 miles away i dont seem to have those issues.

I use regular but someone said that it ran smoother with 93 which makes sense

It is safest to always buy your fuel from a busy station. At a busy station there's less potential for water to condense from the air and settle into half-empty tanks. Quote:

Prior to FI = 87. Now that I'm FI = minimum 91.

I had the P0420 engine light come on. This was about a year, year and a half ago. Had to do with cats. I was living in Sac Town in CA at the time. Drove it to Charlotte NE in Jan2021. Light only came on twice. I was using Reg(87 Octane). Since I got here, light has come on several times. I decided to try the 93, full tank. The light has not come back yet, but now we have this shortage on. This was Exon gas. If anything, I would say the higher octane and additives are better for my V-6. At least it seems not to clog up the cats, and if they are, clears them out. Not sure what they use but they won't say.
