2013 2SS/RS Convertible Pics and items of interest
HUD:
I think the font has changed from '12. Nav: The screen looks reasonably good. The resolution is appropriate for 2012. The responsiveness of the Nav buttons (Nav/Dest) is a bit slower than the basic MyLink, but usable. Destination entry uses an on screen keyboard. Surprisingly I had to enter the state. Hopefully that is a first time thing. Entering city and street info eventually goes to a list of matches for you to choose from. Oddly after entering the street number it wasn't obvious how to say "I'm done". Overall the interface is a bit confusing, but a little time with it should make it easier. It's not in the league of the current BMW system, but is much better than the Pioneer AVIC X920 I have been using. With any luck a software update will clean it up a bit. NOTE: The screen is simply too low to watch while driving. (I'm 6'3") Luckily upcoming directions are shown in the HUD. There is also a somewhat reasonable voice to tell you what to do next. Canceling a route while displaying the radio is not intuitive. By the way, why is Fox News a built-in favorite choice? All the favorites should be blank when new. I would hope the next time the dash is redesigned the video screen will move up near the top of the dash. That will be much safer. Mirror: It's nice but I miss the rear view camera shown in the rear view mirror. Remember the MyLink screen is too low to watch while driving. So displaying the rear view camera image in the MyLink isn't that helpful. It is somewhat difficult to grab the top edges of the mirror to position it. Grab it from the bottom. Visors: Very light weight. Almost too light. The mirrors have no cover. And as you know there are no lights for the visor mirrors. New Convertible top: It looks like it sits better in the storage area. Note there is a decent gap around all edges to (hopefully) avoid rub marks. The arms seem to go down all the way. So I'm a little confused by the replacement top owners pictures which show the arms sticking up a bit. The road noise is reasonable with the top up. Having a conversation is not a problem. Dual Mode Exhaust: The rear diffuser is different. There is no hole for the exhaust tip. It's now a cut out with the area under the dual tips being open. The outer tip has an interior valve (visible in the picture). The mufflers are much smaller. The sound is satisfying. This looks (and sounds) like a reasonable choice compared to aftermarket options. When I push the RPMs you can hear the exhaust well. Quarter Flares: Very nice. Depending on the color they really are not noticeable. Hopefully they will protect the paint. Others: The key slot on the door and the steering column should be a different kind of metal. Both appear to scratch very easily. I'd be looking for some sort of aftermarket device to dress this up a bit. The center console and ebrake handle need to be upgraded in a car at this price point. Memory seats and mirrors would be a welcome addition. Overall: A very nice and comfortable fun driving experience. Last edited by intensifi; 09-13-2012 at 01:07 PM. |
