Coilovers needed? Purchased new tires/wheels

Hi All,

I own a 2017 Camaro 2SS. Today I purchased MRR M755 WHEELS GLOSS BLACK 20X10 & 20X11 wheels & will be getting EXTREMECONTACT DWS 06 PLUS Tires (275/30 ZR20 & 305/30 ZR20). My question is... since the car comes with Magnetic Ride Control, am I able to just install these new wheels or will I need to get coilovers? What is recommended and usually preferred. Thanks!

I heard that coilovers disable the MRC which sounds not worth doing, and honestly I love my changeable features and the car rides well enough.

You can install no problems. If you want to kick the suspension up a notch look into the 1LE kit sold by GM.

You paid for MRC so I'd def keep it. Go with some bmr springs and sways and call it a day. I've got the exact same wheels except I downgraded to 19's for weight savings (~9 lbs per corner!) and better ride as I don't have mrc. The 1" drop from the springs works perfectly with the smaller wheels but also looked great on the oe 20's.

I just installed 5th gen ZL1 wheel replicas with continental Extreme DWS 06 tires. 285-30 fronts and 305-30 rears. I have MRC. Absolutely no issues, no rubbing.
20x10 front wheels and 20x11 rear. Basically plug and play.

so i just bought 275/30/20 on a 20x10 for the fronts and 315/30/20 on 20x11, will i have a terrible overlay with wheel to tire on the 275/30's on the 20x10, im just worried that the rim will poke out far.. will i be OK?

You messed up with that 275/30, should've bought 275/35 instead, the front is way too short for the rear and you may see ABS and stabilitrak errors (not sure what the factory setup was on your 2LT, ie whether or not you have the RS package).

In itself a 275 width tire for a 10" wheel would be fine, but wheel poke heavily depends on the offset that you didn't mention.

cause i originally wanted to get 285/30/20 for the 20x10's but they didnt have them in stock until june/2022, and so then i opted and got the 275/30's for the 20x10, should've i gotten 275/35's or will the 275/30's work? sorry for trying to hound for answers.. its my first time going for a staggered setup and wasn't prepared to be told my 285/30's weren't gonna be available..

So I presume these are MRR wheels and that you originally had 245/40/18 on your 2LT all around (since you said this was going to be your first staggered setup).

If this is the case, the new fronts are 4% shorter than stock and the new rears are 0.7% shorter, so you're looking at a 3.3% difference you are about to introduce between front and rear (see for yourself at https://tiresize.com/comparison/).

Based on other members' experience, the threshold where stabilitrak and ABS start signaling an issue is around 3%. You're cutting it very close and the setup may just barely work or may not, I'm not a tire and wheel shop and never ventured beyond this threshold myself

yes, i originally had the 245/40/20 on my car (square setup), good news is that the tire guy told me that if i did have problems with my 275/30's that i could return them within 30days and get the 275/35. i rlly appreciate all this input it is very helpful as you already know i'm new to the staggered look ! i'll try to figure out to post a picture of them when both sets are on !

Now if only I could type, I meant 245/50/18 for a base 1LT/2LT... Okay, so you have the 245/40/20 all around, which means the new bias is "only" -3.2%, not -3.3%, but the same risk still applies. I guess, since the tire shop is being really decent with you, give the 275/30/20s a try and see if they work or not.
