Interior panels

Hi all,

I was looking to paint the interior panels that are currently grey the same colour yellow as the car.

This would be the inserts in the door cards and that run along the top of the dash.

My question is do they clip out from behind or can the be removed from the front without removing the door cards.

Cheers.

Peter.

You have to take the door panels off. It's really not that hard. for the dash you will need what they call trimming tools. You can get these from almost any car parts place like NAPA or Advance Auto Zone. Jut have to be careful not to brake the clips. If you go to the DIY thread it will show you the full process.

There are places that sell the panels pre-painted also and you want to keep the paint off where the ambient lighting is in the panel with tape. I also have seen some real nice panels done up with vinyl for a nice effect.

You can buy them prepainted for like $250. On my old 2012 1SS I got a set of LS door inserts, sanded them down smooth and painted them myself. They turned out good. Much cheaper option.

You must remove the panels and cut the tabs off the back. The good news is that they are attached by a hollow tube that you can run a #8 or #10 (I can't remember) Wood screw with a washer back into them to reattach the panel. Not sure what you settled on for paint/vinyl/fabric but I did mine with PlastiDip Daytona Yellow color over a White PlastiDip base and the color is an exact match to Rally Yellow.

That looks great. GM should have done that from the factory. What type of adhesive did you use to attach it to the door panel?

I'm pretty sure it was 3M super 80 spray adhesive. I picked it up at my local Home Depot.

Yeah, that yellow is the exact look I'm going for. I'd love to be able to buy pre painted panels for ease but the postage and import tax will triple the price so it's really not an option.
