If you're gonna put less than 4800 a year on it, change it annually.

Should I be concerned about the 2% or is this based on time and not necessary on mileage?

Using synthetic, I change the oil every 8000 miles. The computer uses it't logic, i use mine.

Agree
I left the car 3 months not driving and it went from 60 to 31%
So it’s mile and also time related...
But after that I drove the car 1000miles and it stayed 31% (was expected 30 or 28%)
?
Does that mean it won’t move until the mile software intercepts the time software? (Assuming there are 2 curves in the software miles and time)
Any idea
Just curious

Chiming my two cents into this thread. 6.2 L V8, 2016

Had dealer change oil in late March, odo was approx 23200. ACDelco Dexos Full synthetic 5W30. Then COVID hit and car was barely driven, sometimes just cranked to keep battery up. By this week I had put about 200 miles on the car, and it had dropped to 85%. Granted I did do some full throttle accels when I did take it out. What really worried me was that just driving it today, it dropped from 85 to 81% in probably no more than 50 miles of driving (2 full throttle accels).

For comparison sake, went to same dealer in late May, got same oil (ACDelco Full synthetic Dexos 5W30) on 2009 Silverado 5.3L V8. Have driven it about the same distance (around 200 miles) and the oil life had dropped from 100 to 98%.

Anyone able to figure that one out for me?

I believe it goes to 0% at 1 year maximum from the last oil change regardless of how much you drive, but if you drive enough (especially hard driving) it can reach 0% in less than 1 year. Maybe it doesn't update to account for time since it was last driven immediately when you first start the car?

My guess is that it was still trying to figure it's calculations out and making adjustments after sitting. It is just an estimate after all and is really best used as an approximation tool.

The oil life sensor in my wife's VW Beetle is that way. It counts miles and days from 10K or 365 days, which ever comes first, 5W40 full synthethic in a 2.0L turbo.

That is what I am hoping. Just seeing it drop 4% in a day was a shocker though and 15% in 200-300 miles. At that rate it would be due around 2K which I could see on conventional oil, not on synthetic, though I would not put it past dealer techs to put wrong oil in car, considering the change reminder sticker in my truck shows just 5W30 with a 3500 change interval, while the Camaro says 5W30 DEXOS with a 5500 mile interval, even though both were billed as ACDelco DEXOS synthetic changes.

Just pulled dip stick, and it shows full and clear, like I would expect oil with only 200+ miles on it so who knows.
