Is Air Dam necessary if you have a front splitter?
just as the title said, is there a purpose keeping the air dam once you install the splitter?

Yep, mine was looking tacky so I pulled it off even before I put a splitter on there. Some folks will tell you it is there to deflect air away from the engine compartment under the car, but it is so flimsy I couldn't see that. lol..

Air dams work at high speeds but most of us will never drive fast enough to need it. Mine came off after a couple years and never bothered putting it back on.

I'm just looking at this as what are you talking about? Is it the rubber piece that runs along the front bottom of the car in the front. I have had mine on since I bought the car and it is still in good shape. I have a splitter on my car from day one. I'm putting a new SLP splitter on. But if I don't need it I'm going to take it off.

I left it on with my other splitter and never had any problems with it. And like I stated above it is still in good shape. The installation of the SLP splitter shows leaving it hooked up on each end and letting it hang down while installing the splitter. When I get around to installing the splitter I'll make up my mind weather to take it off or just leave it on.

The one on my car acted as an effective snow plow and has ripped off twice in two years. Once by the snow and once by a curb while parking one day. I don't have a splitter for the same reason. For me they are non functional. However, for the Grand Nations there is a plastic intercooler scoop that is most functional but because the GNs ride higher there is no snow scoop issue to be had, in fact where with the Camaro I have ripped two off in two years the GN still has the factory intercooler scoop intact.

Nope, pulled that off before I put on the splitter and threw it away. I also do my own oil changes and was tired of that being there and having to lift the car higher just to get under that piece.

The idea is the less air going under a vehicle, the better the mileage, at least for trucks. When racing, you really want to limit air going under the car as much as possible. On the ZL1, the air dams are only at the corners. If you take it off, you won't notice any difference.
