Chrome paint in a can?

I am wanting to paint my grill as close to chrome as possible

it doesn't need to be perfect or even have that "super shiny chrome finish" I just want it to look decent from about 10 feet away (Right now its black)

but I want it close to it as possible without spending 130 bucks or something for a kit....

I was just wondering if anyone used a can of paint from home depot or walmart and had good results.

Help me out gents!

Not on a car, but it does not adhere very well and takes forever to dry. Also likes to run like crazy.

Well, I mean what about a nice metallic silver or just plain silver paint?

I used the Krylon stuff with the shiney silver cap. Was like $6 a can.

Silver paint would work better, but do you really want a rattle can painted grill. After a few thousand miles of bug guts, it is likely to look pretty rough.

Silver paint is a thing, but it doesn't have the shiny look like Chrome does. The kit is the best bet if you want Chrome finishes.

Canned paint is crap...For $100 more take it to Maaco. They can do a small job like that and comes with a 2 to 4 year warranty...I forget.

Chrome paint is really terrible to try and paint with. If you really really know what your doing (and 95% of people don't) you can make a rattle can job look passable. That involves a lot more expense then just a can of paint and a crazy amount of time. Do it right and have it chrome plated, professionally sprayed, or buy a different grill. You will be happier in the long run. It's not a '93 Honda Civic.

PLASTIDIP - Easy to apply, and it is removable. I've used it for my emblems, and will soon use it for my front splitter and even my wheels.

Ordered a wheel kit from dipyourcar.com for $50 which comes with 4 cans of matte black and one can of silver metalizer for a top coat.

Long story short - awesome, customizable color options for a cheap price and easy application.

A huge up-and-coming car paint modification. Some have even done their whole car.

"Paint Is Dead" is their motto

I have never seen any "chrome" paint out of a can that even remotely resembles chrome. It may have the same SHADE as chrome, but it has absolutely no reflective/ mirror- finish qualities like chrome does. It's just sort of a brushed silver look, at best.

thats basically what I am looking for.

It doesn't need to have that chrome finish. just CLOSE

something like this is even acceptable I just need it to stick to the grill...

Then buy some 400 & 1200 grit sandpaper and sand the ENTIRE surface of the grill for the paint to adhere to so it won't flake off. if 400 leaves scratch marks too noticeable, finish it off with 1200 grit to smooth it a bit. Don't "dig" into it, just scuff it up. Then, wash it thoroughly to remove any dust and debris, let it dry. You could use rubbing alcohol to finish the cleaning process. WEAR LATEX GLOVES so that oils form your skin dont touch the grill after you've washed and dried it. Then paint. Not too heavy, not too thin. If you get a drip. Let it dry, and wet sand the drip out with 1200 grit. Viola!

Every "chrome" spray paint I've dealt with in the last 40 some years is a temporary fix at best.

Looks great wet, dries semi shiny, and the finish rubs off when dry. Especially the cheap stuff. I had one of my co-workers go apes-it with it in a boiler room one time. It looked like crap.

I could see maybe bright argent silver- it would probably be a more lasting finish.

I don't think it will look anything like chrome... but if you paint plastic scuff it up a bit and make sure you first apply an adhesion promoter like Bulldog.

there is some high end chrome paint they do for wheels... so I'm sure it can be done for plastic as well if prepped properly.

and there is another process they rinse off parts with water.
