Camaro Steering Wheel Removal and Install – 2016/2017 Camaro SS, 1LE, ZL1, LT, LS
Looking to remove or replace your stock SS steering wheel and maybe put on the 1LE or ZL1 steering wheel? This guide has you covered for the Manual version of this steering wheel.
Overall I cut this video a little longer as I wanted to share my struggles and frustration with this install and removal as it was my first time. Never fear, let me be the one to learn and share.

Hey Matt,. I swapped my wheel tonight and all went extremely well, thanks to you and this video.
One thing however, you know how the steering wheel lock went away with the battery disconnected, leading you to use the impact... Did the steering lock functionality take time to come back online after rebooting the battery? I have no lock now it seems... Last edited by Lemooreace; 03-26-2017 at 10:52 PM. |

Air bag won't blow up.
The constant honking when F'N around with the steering wheel is good enough reason to pull the Neg. Cable though.....

Thought Id try posting this here. So Im replacing my 1LE steering wheel with one of Wildhammers custom carbon fiber wheels but I cant get the steering wheel bolt off? Tried my Milwaukee impact, an electric impact and then air impact...Nothing! Not budging??? Im assuming the bolt is threaded in clockwise? Any advice? Im about to purchase Milwaukee new impact rated for 1400ft lb.....good thing its winter in Canada and I wont be driving the car for while, but still want this done asap!
Thanks in advance |

Steering wheel removal
For sure it's on there tight as hell, I had to go get an 1/2" impact with serious power, it took a few minutes but it finally broke free. Just keep after it, it will finally come lose and pull off very slowly. The Windhammer wheel is very nice.

Yes its threaded normally. It's just on there incredibly tight and with a threadlocker compound. Do not even try to get it off without an impact driver. And make absolutely sure you have the correct size torx head, and a strong one. Even just a little bit too small and you'll strip it out.

This is one of my fears not yet conquered, I wouldn't dare to put the impact to it. Why it had to be a torx bolt and not a regular hex one that one could easily take off with a socket wrench is beyond me.

Yes, I stripped mine out trying to use a hand ratchet. It seemed to strip out very easily. I then had to take a hammer and chisel to it to get it off, then I had to buy a new bolt which was super annoying.
