Bought a 47 grand car but refuses to but a 800 dollar set of tires to run in the winter. Really seems like GM is the illogical one here....

I was stuck at home the other day since the 8" of fresh and still falling wet snow over glare ice made it impossible for my 2WD S10 to push through. Had the local TV news on to check road conditions.

They interviewed this young girl coming out of a convenience store holding a bottle of something and asked her how the roads were. She said they were really slick especially in some spots and it was making her brakes want to lock up and shudder so she went in and bought some brake fluid to add hoping that would help. That's called Anti-Lock Brakes dear, that is how they work.

Poor girl apparently has no one to tell her this stuff. When my son started driving and the roads got snowy the FIRST thing I taught him was his car had anti-lock brakes and went to a big open area to jam on the brakes to get the experience and feel of ABS. Then he'll know what to expect and TO NOT LET OFF OF THE BRAKE PEDAL WHEN IT KICKS IN like so many noobs do!!!!

I TOOK MY JEEP WRANGLER RUBICON TO THE TRACK EARLIER IN THE YEAR AND WAS APPALLED AT ITS HANDLING WITH A 3" LIFT AND MUD TERRAIN TIRES! I WILL NEVER BUY ONE OF THESE AGAIN! I TALKED TO THE DEALER AND THEY WOULD NOT EVEN REPLACE IT FOR FREE. I JUST WANTED EVERYONE TO KNOW, DO NOT BUY THIS CAR!

Did he complain to his PC manufacturer that his cap lock is stuck?
And he Leased a 1LE which meant he couldn't afford it anyway.

The Goodyear tires, while pretty good on the track on a warm day, are not very good once the temps dip below 50F and almost undriveable below 40. I leave my DRs on and they are still sticky below 40. When the Goodyears wear out I will buy better tires. I think the best 1LE plan is to immediately sell the Goodyears and get something else.

But OP this is very old news.

I don't recall ever hearing anyone who's ever driven an old muscle car bitch about tires. They always talked about how the car had too much power, or they knew they had to go easy on the throttle to get any traction. Today's drivers seem to think they should just be able to get in and hammer it full throttle all the time and the car should hook.

99% of these thread posters would be better served by taking a driving class and understanding how to properly manage the traction available. Hey guys, guess what? When it's wet outside, you have less traction. When it's cold, yup, less traction! That pretty white stuff that falls from the sky? Yeah, it negatively effects traction too! Got 400+ HP? Yup, traction may be an issue in all conditions if you DON"T RESPECT IT!

You don't NEED to buy a beater to get around in winter, but you may need to change your "Summer Only" tires if you live in a Northern climate. If you know that temps fall below 40* on a regular basis in say late October or November, switch to winter tires or at the very least an All Season tire. When temps are regularly over 40*, you can switch back. In the part of West Virginia I live in, that means I switch around November 1 to AS, and back to nice sticky Summer tires around mid-March. If a West Virginian can figure it out, I'm sure the rest of you can too.

/end rant
I have had the CAM5 Pirellis and a BMW with summer only tires. The Goodyears are much worse. But as you say if you drive on summer tires, be very careful when it's cold.

I'm th OP ...if you read the post you'd see I'm not the 1LE owner. I was just passing on info from the owner to make people aware of the the most important aspect of the owner's comments ..the cracking situation of the tires which people should be aware of as I'd want to know about if I had them on my car.
