in the city? Didn't gen5 also have AFM?

Notice I never picked a winner here. Just putting out data to consider and pointing out that times have changed. What we knew from the TH400 vs T10 days no longer applies

That looks like a 3mpg advantage to me

I think the roll race would depend alot on the mph and which transmission is in the optimal rev range for the hit, but i still think the auto will pull ahead by the end. With the close gearing of the auto it will be way harder for it to be out of the optimal power band too.

First - I think the M6 has AFM also. Vette's do.

Second - someone mentioned that the M6 will have 2 shifts from 40-120. Let's say that the A8 has 4 shifts (don't know how many, though). If the A8 takes 1/2 the time to make shifts, but has to shift 2x as many times, then the shift time advantage of the auto is completely nullified.

Of course, it takes a pretty darn good driver to rip off consistent 0.3 second shifts. A drunken monkey can drive an auto fast. Heck, you don't even need brain cells - a cinder block, if placed on the gas pedal, can drag race just as fast as the best manual driver in the world.

Only the gen5 L99 auto had AFM.

Your cinder block comment literally made me laugh out loud. Thanks for that!

Auto from the dig, no lift shift will make things close on the roll depending on speed you run from.

Drive line losses are still thought to be 15% with a manual transmission. Older automatic transmissions averaged 20%. Newer automatics and wet DCT's are better, around 18%. Dyno numbers seem to be indicating this is the case.

You need to come up for air Ron. Think you are getting a little lightheaded

They are averaging a bit higher than your 18% would suggest. I'd guess it's closer to about 10% loss for the manual and about 12 for the auto.

Either way they run good don't they? I was coming from a heads cam 5th gen and I was pleasantly surprised the first time I put my foot down in my SS.

Definitely a fact of life with your L99(no offense)...but not necessarily the case with the A8.

I see your point no offense taken I know all about my car. Right off the hop......it's the m6 . Once the A8 finds its legs then its game on . The manual is in the right gear.....the auto has to get to the right gear. Paddle shifters help slightly in the auto. Still looking to see a 6th gen at the track to see some real world numbers but I havnt been lucky. You guys need to get some vs video posted

Why exactly do you believe the auto has to get in the right gear if it has paddles?
