Hmm, well there are plenty if 4 cylinder SPORTS CARS. Cylinder count has nothing to do with a car is considered a sports car or not. Sports Cars can have 4, 6, 8, 10 or even 12 cylinders, and some of each are available today.

Because smaller displacement, forced induction engines with anything less than 8 cylinders are bad for sports cars. Right? Right...?

But the 2.0T in the ATS is pretty solid. If they can keep the weight decent it will be pretty fun. In a few months we will have reviews of the ATS coupe and that will indicate what we could expect.

The thing will put down more torque to the rear wheels when tuned than it does stock at the crank. Not saying GM can turn it up nearly that high and keep it to their reliability standards...I realize that. Just saying that is a lot of room to grow lol.

And also, you're using a 6 cylinder-equipped car to prove that a 4 cylinder engine replacing a 6 cylinder engine option is... something. I can't tell, other than that you're trolling and probably drunk. |

Yes, let's look at what GM produces, a 460 HP sports car capable of 30+ MPG in real world fuel economy.

Chevrolet put 4 cylinders in Camaro's 30 years ago....when they were not nearly as good as they are now.

Do NOT confuse EPA with real world. For GM cars and trucks those are not the same.

Don't forget the Veyron with its W-16, basically when one V-8 just isn't enough, so they mash two of them together! Although its in a category of its own. The Stingray (C-7) in Eco mode has been avg 28 MPGs on hiway road trips from the comments I've read in the Stingray forum. Several of the Supercar makers are now adding four electric motors to assist in performance, and plan on numerous models to include sedans and SUVs. Many of them are slated to have four cylinders. Lots of changes in the auto world coming soon, and it looks to be better for us in MPGs and performance! |

For the Camaro to survive and be a platform where a splendid small displacement V8 to reside there will likely have to be a 4 cylinder variant. Not because we do or do not want one, not because GM can or can not sell one but simply because of the upcoming CAFE standards.
As long as there is an SS, a Zxx then no one on this website should care the least little bit about whether there is a 4 cylinder available or not. It has nothing to do with a V8 and it's ultimate performance and in no way belittles a V8 version. In time, to make our government happy and meet the regulations that were put in place by people WE ALL voted into office the Camaro will likely have the following technologies like Start Stop and a Mild or Full Hybrid. We should all be doing one of two things at this point. 1) getting our elected officials to eliminate of significantly modify CAFE or 2) supporting fully GM putting a 4 cylinder in the Camaro so that there will in fact BE a Camaro. We did this to ourselves. It's not GM's fault if and when it happens. Keep that in mind. Here is a list of 3 really great cars: BMW M3/4 Audi RS4/5 BMW AMG C63 What do they all have in common? A 4 cylinder model to start with and build upon.
