Camaro SS Stock Top Speed

Just curious - I've seen different numbers - a Camaro brochure for 2016 lists 180 mph (149 for turbo 4 and V6). Other places I've seen 155 or 165.

Look around, there are vids where owners have pushed 170+.

The last few M.P.H. takes forever. I will never take mine that high. It is a good reference to the cars general performance level though. I think 5th gear runs out at about 190 M.P.H. not quite enough power to get there.. but it's close.

I think anyone buying an SS trim loves speed but 170 is just looney unless you're on the unlimited section of the Autobahn.

Thanks for the info.

Kind of awe-inspiring to think I drive a car that could go 180.

I had mine up to 165 and it was still pulling. I do have a CAI, ported throttle body and msd intake. Could have easily gone more but i ran out of road. 165 felt like 100, these cars are smooth as can be!

At twice the normal speed limits, other drivers are far more of an issue. This is not Germany and they are not expecting nor experienced with other cars that could have 100MPH closure speeds, while they are running at the speed limit. Their reactions are set for our normal speeds. Driving far in excess of those speeds opens you up to their miscalculations.

I was lucky enough to be able to do some closed highway runs in my SLP Firehawk. Things happen very fast at speeds in excess of 150MPH. Even during true track days, I never approached 150MPH in any of my other cars.

Pedal down and you tell us. If you don't get to 170 don't respond. Just kidding, don't take a chance unless your at a 1mile run. I've had mine to 135, but that's just girly girly to what this cars potential is. My drag car went 136 in the quarter on the rev limiter at 1000 feet. So that's slow.

What's crazy is there was a time not very long ago when the top speed on high end super exotics was 170. And 120-150 was considered amazing for an unmodified stock Camaro Z28 or SS.
