2011 Vert - TSBs (To Do or Not To Do)
I'm about to pull the trigger on a left-over 2011 RY 2SS vert, and I'm wondering if I should have my home-town dealer perform all the TSBs on it "before" I pick it up "after" they trailer it in from the out-of-state dealer where they located it for me.
Obviously they're going to inspect it and not pick it up if it looks like there's any issues, but I was wondering if the TSBs should be done proactively? Can't believe I could be a week away from getting a Camaro! |

hi
we were as as you about the idea of getting a camaro convertible but as we read all the horrible stories (keep in mind, these stories were real life of people not just fiction), we decided to wait this forum is the best source for full information about the problems there are many people out there, who have their tops not only replaced once or even twice and who are still unhappy many of the probs occur not during the first days... so your dealer CANNOT make sure those probs are not there AT ALL rubmarks (leading to holes sooner or later) do occur during driving with the top down breaking 5th bows occur during the operation of the top (so the should test it more than once still you would not be sure how can your dealer cure a problem before he knows what the reason for all those problems is has chevrolet spoken frankly about all the problems yet? have they found a fix to each specific problem yet? have they discovered the reason for each problem at all yet? as long as chevy does not confirm that ALL problems are solved and show what they did to solve it it seems like gambling to me or even russian roulette (many people had their verts in the dealer's shop for more days than in their own garages during their ownership) if you should buy it? maybe you should try to buy a ZL1 vert (only joking: the ZL1 production was stopped right after the producting started due to some problems. and again they do not talk frankly about it... what do they have got to hide? if you should buy it? |

Yes, it's gambling. GM will honor their warranty, but as I and many have found, the heartache, time lost from work, cheap ass rentals, service departments treating us like idiots certainly take away from the joy of owning what should be a fine car.
If I had known about these issues before I purchased, I wouldn't have purchased. Good luck, whatever route you choose.

My mom was in the market for a toy. Shes mid-50s and was all about a 2LT/RS convertible but after reading the real life stories she decided against.
Found a 2007 Sky RedLine with 9000 miles. |

I agree getting a 2011 is kind of a crap shoot but you can't replace the permagrin in owning a camaro vert. have them put the top down for the test drive and take a good look at the area just above the doors both on top and underneath for any canvas wear. Also have them wash the top using a lot of water. Any problems with the water management will show up right away.
I have had problems with my top but I know people who have the original top with no problems. I still have a permagrin everytime I drive this car. And they do know how to fix the problems, its just not as easy as everyone would like.

My second 11 vert since August. Traded from a LT to an SS. I knew I could have problems, but none as bad as not being able to put the top down at all. Just my 2 cents...

I'm definitely buying it. I've spent the past 6 weeks reading all the horror stories, but I feel it's worth the risk for a 3rd car that is going to be purely a toy.
That being said, I'm going into this with my eyes wide open, knowing some of the issues I may or may not face. The thing I really wanted advice on was whether to have the dealer perform the TSBs proactively, even if the car shows no signs of symptoms. Obviously it would be nice to get a '12 that might have seen the 'fixes' currently being done on the production line, but I couldn't pass up an '11 2SS with 12 miles and a sticker of $44,780 that I'm able to get for 39k (after my $1500 private offer) and finance at 0% for 72. |

There's supposedly a notice going out to all vert owners in a few weeks for us to bring our cars in to the dealers for the official fixes. It's in one of the threads here. I suggest getting those done since they are GM-official. Until then, I've padded up my top like crazy and testing for rub marks.

I haven't been able to convince a dealer to do ANYTHING proactively. You may have better luck.
Might be because GM won't pay dealers to proactively do the fixes.
