A8 tranny shifting

Anyone know if the A8 always starts in 1st gear when Taking off from a stop? My understanding is the current A6 always starts in 2nd gear from a stop unless you put it in manual mode. Wondering if the A8 will have same behavior?

My A8 starts in first and shifts through the gears fairly quickly with normal driving.

Mine always starts in 1st gear. You can put it in sport mode and select 2nd gear to start.

Ok. I was was curious since I heard folks with the current A6 mention that if they just put it in drive that due to the really low ratio of 1st gear that the transmission is programmed to take off in 2nd under normal driving mode. Probably to save gas. However, in sport/manual mode it would then default to using the aggressive 1st gear from a stop. Was just curious how the A8 behaved since I am considering switching from a manual next year. I love to row my own gears but this is the first auto that may entice me to make the switch.

Yours is auto? I thought the GT model is manual only(at least thats the way it is in middle east).mine is the ultimate model with the auto.as for OP's question, most autos start from 1st unless you lock it in second(manual mode)

A couple links to further describe what I am referring to. Also could be differences between SS models and v6. It looks like when in sport mode and using the paddles it will only downshift to 2nd when coming to a stop. If you leave it in drive or put it in sport mode but don't touch the paddles it will downshift to 1st at a stop. Anyway, no big deal just curious about details of the A8 and if keeps things sporty and fun.

All GT models here are auto only. I am thinking the Track model here is a GT in Canada. The track is is auto and manual available.

That's a question for guys who have sat in car with computer data logging. Your tuner has worked on a c7 by now that's who I would ask for a legit response. Not sure if any of the Camaro 5 tuners (pro or hobby) are active here yet.

My 2010 6L80 used 2nd at stops when stock tune.

Are you answering a Camaro question with what your Hyundai does?

Only because it has an 8 speed auto and that was the question.

The question was asked on a Camaro forum ... odds are, the OP was asking about the transmission in the Camaro. And the way that a Hyundai Powertech behaves isn't particularly relevant to question about how a GM HydraMatic behaves.

A lot of people answer Camaro questions with answers referring to non-Camaro or Corvette cars. Makes no sense.
