I wonder if this car, with that rear-end ratio, is optimized for the rental car market.

The only bad thing I can think of is someone rents the car, is disapponted with the performance, and conlcudes that all camaros are like that.

A potential benefit to GM is higher MPG cars to help their CAFE numbers.

What I'm wondering is if you're someone like me that likes the non-spoiler look, what happens if you want an automatic and no spoiler? Personally, I love manual & will never own another automatic transmission if I can help it, but what if someone wanted this? It sounds like the spoiler & gear are part of the package not options. I know you can't please everyone, but it is something to think about.

I don't like these designated trim levels because you can't option a car out the way you want. For example, you can't get cloth seats in an SS with the premium sound system. And i can't order a 2SS without the stupid backup sensors that put holes in the rear bumper. Come on, GM, let us choose our options!

CAFE (Corporate Average Fuel Economy) requirements. If the average fuel economy of a manufacturer's annual fleet of car and/or truck production falls below the defined standard, the manufacturer must pay a penalty, currently $5.50 USD per 0.1 mpg under the standard, multiplied by the manufacturer's total production for the U.S. domestic market. What that stardard is, I don't know. But manufacturers must meet it, therefore it's a must to appeal to the economically minded consumer as well. My .02

Sounds good... I never understood why the spoiler wasn't just standard on all the models, I guess some people don't really care, but I think as a mass produced part, it would've dressed up the LS models with little additional cost.

Easy, have the dealer disconnect the sensors and swap out the bumper for a 1SS bumper.

The more options GM lets you choose, the higher the probability that something will go wrong in production.

The trim levels are there to streamline the production process.

And profit.
The build sheet instructs the assembler what to put, or not install, on the vehicle as it travels to each process. I suppose that the manufactors does get less in package vs the cost of each if you get a loaded car or truck. But you have to buy a package to get something you may only wanted by itself.

Optimized for CAFE and MPG shoppers. If your into performance, the last thing you want is an MPG gear ratio. If you into lugging an engine at super low RPMs to squeese out 1 more mpg, this gear is for you.
